Is the stock muffler restrictive?

I wouldn't mind putting on a cat back exhaust if I could retain my stock muffler. I just like the sound it makes now, or the lack there of.

I want to get a new exhaust but haven't got around to doing it. I'd like to keep my stock tip muffler as well, I just like the way it looks,

If you decide to upgrade your turbo you will need a a non-restrictive exhaust. All the air being pulled into the motor will need a way out. If not, the heated exhaust will makes its way back into the motor and cause severe damage. As for the horsepower, it does add, but mostly noticed is the increase of torque, throttle response and quicker spool up (especially with a downpipe). You can buy a dual tip muffler that is decently quiet. Just make sure its a straight flow design.
