Im looking to replace my Thermal R&D muffler from the axle back because im not really a fan of the huge 5" tip that comes with it (came with car when I bought it), so which is most quiet among these?

Magnaflow 14719 - 7" dia body & 14" body length
Dynomax UltraFlo SS 17296 - 6" dia body & 16" body length
Dynomax UltraFlo Welded 17223 - 6" dia body & 16" body length

All 3 have 3" inlet and 3" single outlets with round bodies, and for comparison sake, the Thermal muffler dimensions are 7" dia round body & 16" body length

I don't know if anyone is going to have hands-on with all of those varieties. The dynomax ones you listed all appear to be for "ultraflo" or "race" so keep that in mind when you're thinking about the noise they might produce. They're made to flow and, less so, to muffle.

I think I'll be going for a Magnaflow 3" in and dual 2-1/4" out to try an keep noise down and maintain a stock appearance.

I too prefer the Magnaflow brand, however the DynoMax offers the 16" body length which I believe will offer better sound deadening. On the other hand, the Magnaflow offers the larger 7" diameter.

Thermal will be the quietest. Ive seen Multiple cars with thermals, and they all sound good, low and agressive when accelerated. Apex`i usually has alot of 3" applications. If your looking for an exhaust for cheap too, check out HOME they do good stuff.

for the most part oval mufflers are quieter then the cans. the apexi ws2 is supposed to be quiet. i just scored a used thermal muffler from a gsx for 40 bucks. and i was wondering how loud it was because my bootleg can is way too loud and im looking for something a little more quieter.

The thermal muffler actually sounds pretty decent, its got a nice tone and doesnt drone at highway speeds, its just the damn 5" tip that bothers me. I got under today to see if I could just grind off the tip, the problem is that Thermal welds the tip all the way to the body of the muffler, and if you take a flashlight inside the tip you can see the outlet size of the muffler is 3". Id hate to hack up a good name brand muffler though:)

Hacking it would be cheaper then buying a new muffler. If you don't like it the way it is, it's worthless to you so hack away!

Yes it would, however Ive already gotten couple offers for my Thermal muffler which will get most of my money back:) Ill also have the ability to revert back if things dont go as intended

Anyway, I think im going to go with the DynoMax UltraFlo Welded 17223, it doesnt need to be more quiet than my Thermal, just not louder
