Quietest stock looking muffler?

first off, the opening slowly opens along with your turbos spool, like a wastegate, which actually spools it about the same as a full free flowing, and just look at the dyno chart, like 24 whp by putting that on, i realize its not the most efficient design, with the fact that its a "T" but they have tested it, and its yields the same power on a 1.8 T as a full 3 inch turbo back

oh and it relies on backpressure to let the gasses out, but you have to think of it as a BOV, the exaust pressure is still escaping the stock exhaust and anything it cant handle comes out the cutout, like when your TB plate slaps closed the BOV isnt "V'd" into the ic piping its usually a "T" and yet the pressure wave hitting the closing TB plate never makes it back to the turbo all the pressure in the pipe is held between the TB plate and the BOV, untill while it escapes, saving your turbos life so to say, so the most backpressure in the exhaust system is between the most restrictive part and the least restrictive part (in the last case the closing TB plate and the open BOV), which means all your backpressure is made between the restrictive stock exhaust and the open atp valve, NOT between the valve and the turbo

I got a Magnaflow Ultra Flow muffler and bought a 3'' Dual Tip from RRE, it looks very stock and is very quiet, here are some pictures

PS: these are before i spraypainted the muffler and piping to keep it more low profile

look at vibrants "street-power" flat black muffler, me n my friends had one back when it wasn't in stores and stuff yet but now i think you can find it in online stores, i'll try to find a site and post it up. Anyway, yea it looks exactly like a stock muffler, but it is noticably louder than stock, not as loud as mine, but still makes some noise We had 3 cars driving in a row with the accord having all the stock resonators removed and the vibrant muffler, me with my full 3" piping and tsudo fireball muffler, and my friends integra with just an apex n1 cat-back and the vibrant was the quietest hands down. Then we went driving and when in traffic you could not even really notice the sound of it. That was a quality muffler though, you guys should maybe should consider looking into it if your looking for a stock appearance muffler.

but do you think the cops would know if it was or not?

No, I just didn't know if the guy I bought the car flow replaced the muffler. I think it would stock even if it was steel though.

yea most stock mufflers are just plain steel, i think if you had flat black or steel it doesnt really matter it looks stock, but when you go getting like a chrome or gloss black, then it kinda draws attention. We seem to be attracted to shiny things :D

If you watch the video you can hear the turbo spooling very well before you hear the cutout open, this is because the cutout doesn't open till you see 5-7PSI boost.

Take a look at the dyno chart, 23.4WHP gain at 6600RPM!!!!!

Woohoo dipshart, read the numbers:

Open max HP: 246.5HP
Closed max HP 236.1HP

Open max ft/lbs: 237.0
Closed max ft/lbs: 221.5

That adds up to 10.4HP gain, and 15.5 ft/lbs of torque.

That doesn't look like a true gain of 23.4HP to me... looks like someone is overrating there dyno charts so idiots that dont know when to shift see OooooHHHHH!!!! BIG INCREASE AT REDLINE AHHHHH OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I say to atp, get a real product, stop selling numbers and sell a product that yeilds a legitiment gain compaired to other "real" products. Ive seen car-backs gain that on cars before...

first off, no ones saying that this 200 some dollar flapper is going to outflow a full 3 inch turbo back exhaust, and theyre not selling numbers, theyre selling a practical product for those people that dont want a droning full 3 inch exhaust at cruising and idle, but dont wanna choke of their turbo or pull a knob or push a button in order to open the valve.

In your last paragraph there i assume you mean "Cat-backs" and yeah a catback can gain that on a car, but can a cat back maintain stock sound at idle and cruising, your thinking to boost happy and loud exhaust (i agree with you on some points, the valve is something i personally would NEVER buy, i want a loud full 3 inch) ATP on the other hand is thinking practical for all those people that dont wanna spend the money and/or dont want the crazy loud sound.....oh and stop getting so fired up man its just a little exhaust valve :shhh:

oh and one more thing, you have to remember those gains are on a 1.8T

Oval shaped exhausts are much quieter than the can style mufflers such as the N1 style muffler. I have a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust system with only 2 bends in the whole system(downpipe and very very slight bend before muffler). I have no cats, no resonators. My car is quieter that most cars. Don't mess with this actuator crap. Its too much of a headache. Get a oval shaped magnaflow with a 2.5" in & out. Youll be happy you did. :thumb:

Interesting you say that the ovals are quieter than the canisters. It seems that the general consensus here is that the HKS and the EVO are quieter than the magnaflow.

An oval will be quieter than a canister given that both are open straight thru mufflers. My last HKS was not and did little to improve performance. The larger the area inside the muffler the better it will quiet the exhaust. I run an oval Magnaflow and got an 18" long body to fit instead of the usual 14" long version most use. Along with a resonator it is very quiet when cruising and has NO in cabin resonance my last exhaust had. Idle is deep. VERY pleased with this kteller.com system and inexpensive, turbo back for a catback price. mark

Magnaflow: 18x5"
HKS: 21x6"

I searched pretty thoroughly and most of the posts said the Greddy Evo and the HKS are the quietest available. Then I post to double check, and everyone says the opposite! We'll see.

Magnaflow makes a 18"x5"x8" oval. I do not think they make a 5" canister but could be wrong. Quiet=less flow.
I still say the resonator and BIG muffler, both straight thru are the best combo for power and sound. Good luck and let us know!! mark

I've had an Evo b4...it is quite a bit louder. Also my magnaflow is a straight through design and like I said before, its quieter than most setups. When i get a chance, ill take some pics of the setup, this way you guys can see for yourselves.

i've actully have a NT, 2.5" all the way back, still have a cat, added a muffler man glasspack and an advance auto parts 2.5" in, 3.5" out fart can, and it is pretty quiet. I dont get harassed by the bacon-squad any more since i added the glasspack.

Thought I'd throw in that also when comparing the HKS to a Magnaflow, the HKS comes with a removable silencer.

My system is a kteller with resonator that they sell. I went with a 4"longer muffler thugh as a larger canister is quieter. Mine is an 18" long Magnaflow. Having the exhaust exit before the back of the car would certainly add to interior noise. What's the reason for the totally stock look? i had an HKS on another turbo car and it was really quiet. Mark
I remember up until 2000 HKS used to make a 2.5 inch exhaust with a stock looking black twin tip muffler at the back, was soooo quiet and stock looking....my buddie ran a 13.3 with a 14b on one...they still make that exhaust?
