I was riding around doing some tuning tonight while a friend drove and he decided to mess with another car and floored it.I put my rev limiter in ecmlink to 6900 rpm with the stock cams. He redlines it in first spinning the tires for like 3 seconds and then continues to run full boost in 2nd and then shifts to 3rd for a few seconds. I'm pushing about 18 pounds of boost on E85 with about 21 degrees of timing. Running 11.8 gasoline AFR's. After that little stunt he pulled, the car seemed to run fine and still boosted like normal.

Drove it about 1/4 mile home and about 2 blocks from home it decided to not build boost and sounded like a supercharger when getting near boost. Drove it a few more blocks and it just didn't have the power anymore. I got some pics of the turbo which I think is pretty much done for. It definitely looks like a knock off 16g the previous owner put on. The turbo says TURBOCHARGER TYPE : TD05 Re. NO KB090002456. Anyone know what it might be? Looks like the compressor wheel is hitting. I have another turbo laying around that says TD05 TURBO - SERIALNO: MZ0605050 that I'm not sure what it is either. Previous owner of this one says a 16g too. First 2 pics are of suspected blown turbo.

ya it looks like the wheel is scrapping and maybe that's is whats causing the whining noise. And that turbo is an ebay 16g knock off by the way. i'd get a real mhi before anything else messes up. Maybe a 14b for now. thats crazy how your running dsmlink and e85 on a ebay turbo:nono:

So the 2 bottom pics are a knock off 16g also? I had pulled it from the 6 bolt motor that I swapped in my car. U would think it would be no different from running dsmlink and E85 as opposed to 91 octane and an AFC pertaining to the kind of turbo I have. It just boils down to how shitty they really are. I never took the time to actually look at the turbos. I figured if they were indeed ebay turbos that WHEN they failed, I would upgrade to a holset or something.

A good replacement would be a 20g if you want to go with another internally gated turbo that can support some decent power.

Do you mean the FP T-28? If so, yes. That turbo is amazing and spools so fast. Friend had it on his GST about a week ago before upgrading and it was surprising what it did for 20psi on pump 93 and S-AFC tune.

EDIT: Nevermind. You changed your original post.

Ebay turbos boost fine and pull hard untill they blow up in less than 500 miles..

You could try finding a 14b for now..Or like other stated buy a real 16g, or hell even a 20g..

Any turbo with that plate by the wastegate..That says "turbocharger" is junk china ebay shit..You already know it's a turbo, it doesn't need to be written on the compressor cover..;)

Also the fp big t28 is a direct bolton for 2g's..But you already have everything needed for a real MHI turbo.

I meant 20g. If you have a little more money than the SP T-28 is exactly what I would recommend. They build full boost by 3k and are good for UP TO mid-low 11's

Wouldn't it be wiser to spend the 279 on the BEP housing for a holset HX40 and just run that? I could prob find an OEM holset for around 250-300. With the E85 and link, it wouldn't hurt to go big or go home. Aren't the HX40's capable of mid 500-600 hp?

My hx40 made 615whp. 37psi. But you also need a TON of supporting mods. If you have some money your willing to part with and dont care if you spool at 5k, go for it.

so the HX40 spools at 5k even with the .55 housing? Maybe I'll look into the HX35 then. I don't have cams yet so the lower the spool the better. In the meantime, I think I'll run this other knock off 16g until it gives way...maybe run a little lower boost this time. Is the HX35 a 450hp capable turbo?

the Holsets are a lot of work to make them work right, by the time you add up the core, bep housing, and all the little things to make it work, you are better off going with a 20g and switching out the hotside, or a 68hta, but that's one man's opinion.
But, once you've got it set up, its a beast of a turbo.

I eventually wanna get to around 450 to 500. Maybe more in the future. I just don't like the idea of having 400 hp and then 6 months later wanting more...and again 6 months later wanting even more. I figure why not get a high hp capable turbo and run low boost until I have supporting mods for higher. I know the stock 6 bolt bottom end can safely run 450hp or more.

A holset can be had for 250-300 and the housing for around 279. That's high 500's and I know for sure the 20g alone is more than that. It can't be that hard to set up an oil line to the turbo. Are all holsets externally gated?

Well some can some cant i would do some researh as to what youll need for that hp, tuning, wb, maintenace so forth, i would get a mhi for now and get the mods when you get your turbo, but thats just me.

It's all over the forums how the stock bottom ends can hold 450 conservatively. If all else, I could throw in these forged 2g wiseco I have from my old 7 bolt.

I already have ECMlink v3 full, OMNIpower 4 bar map and GM IAT for speed density, PTE 1200's, innovate LC-1 wideband, brand new timing components....Just need some internals when I plan to run higher.
