Is my turbo smoked?

I was riding around doing some tuning tonight while a friend drove and he decided to mess with another car and floored it.I put my rev limiter in ecmlink to 6900 rpm with the stock cams. He redlines it in first spinning the tires for like 3 seconds and then continues to run full boost in 2nd and then shifts to 3rd for a few seconds. I'm pushing about 18 pounds of boost on E85 with about 21 degrees of timing. Running 11.8 gasoline AFR's. After that little stunt he pulled, the car seemed to run fine and still boosted like normal.

Drove it about 1/4 mile home and about 2 blocks from home it decided to not build boost and sounded like a supercharger when getting near boost. Drove it a few more blocks and it just didn't have the power anymore. I got some pics of the turbo which I think is pretty much done for. It definitely looks like a knock off 16g the previous owner put on. The turbo says TURBOCHARGER TYPE : TD05 Re. NO KB090002456. Anyone know what it might be? Looks like the compressor wheel is hitting. I have another turbo laying around that says TD05 TURBO - SERIALNO: MZ0605050 that I'm not sure what it is either. Previous owner of this one says a 16g too. First 2 pics are of suspected blown turbo.

any head work? probably want cams, springs and retainers and probably some 3g lifters. Also, a SMIM would help as well as slightly porting the head

You wouldn't be working anything with stock head/cams. Look into some cams. I just sold my FP2's and people love them. HKS 272 and FP2's are straight drop in. There's not really any need for porting, people see over 650 on stock ports. An SMIM will help with any larger turbo but isn't technically needed. 2gGSX on here from STL made over 650awhp on a stock 2g IM.

I'm definitely gonna go with some 3g lifters. My current lifters are pretty noisy the way it is. The head is stock as far as I know but I'll defnitely go with some cams when I get the chance. I don't plan on going over 450 for a while. 450 is my current goal. The car isn't really a daily driver since I'm unemployed at the moment and take care of kids all day. Winter time and tax season will be upgrade time for me.

No problem. But, if you bought a mhi 16g, you wouldnt have this problem. Ive also ran an ebay 16g years ago and guess what happened? I learned my lesson and bought genuine turbos from then on.

You shouldn't assume that I bought anything actually. I bought the car with this POS turbo on it. I bought a 6 bolt motor with another POS turbo on it. Who wouldn't run something that they already have? I'm planning on putting this other POS turbo on until it blows.

I assure you, if I were to buy a turbo, It won't be a chinese turbo. All ebay turbo's aren't knock offs. A seller on there is selling brand new OEM EVO3 16g's for around 630 bucks. Does someone call that an ebay turbo too?

That only makes sense until you figure the cost of an engine replacement into your equation because your POS ebay turbo blew chunks into it. You know ebay pos turbos are bogus, you can see the shavings of compressor housing that junk turbo is already sending into your motor, and you are going to put another one back on? you are destined to....FAIL

TDO5? hahaha....I'm surprised that the chinese were able to spell it right. So much of there knock off shit is spelled wrong.

630 wow too much shipped from 2 vendors here under 600, 549 or 559 from extreme psi, or forced peformance. got mine rebuilt for around 250 5 years ago when i got it was practially new.

I understand that but what can ya do when your on a budget? I'll just run lower boost on this turbo and hope that when it fails, it makes a slight noise or throws some smoke. So venders are selling the EVO3 16g's for less than 600 on here? I would assume maybe the s16g or b16g but not the evo.

If you are in the market for an E316g from a vendor then you can afford to buy a 14b off of someone here through the classifieds or on craigslist and throw it on, I'll bet if you tried you could find one for less than $100. Trust me, its a better option to even have your car sit and take the bus for a couple of weeks until you can afford the real deal than it is to take a chance on an ebay turbo. Trust me, picture yourself standing in front of your car looking at the blown motor under your hood, compare the wait time to getting that replaced.

When an "ebay" turbo is mentioned, everyone on this forum knows that it refers to knock-off turbos. And I dont care if i got a brand new knock-off turbo for free, im not running that junk. Good luck with that debris that keeps getting sent into you motor.
