Is my Short block good or no good?

So I Started my car, it turned over twice and then the engine locked up. Tore the block apart and discovered that one of the piston rods snapped. This chipped the Cylinder wall..

I was wondering, could this be repaired? or resleeved? its a small chip at the very bottom of cylinder 4.

I will try to post some pictures of the damages later on today. I just need to know if my block is "toast" or if its repairable or not.

If the chip is below the lowest point that the rings travel then you should be fine. I'd have a machinist inspect the block and magnaflux the area if possible to check for small cracks.

one would hope your going to ok but with having it properly inspected you will never know. looks like its coming out and going to the machine shop or your rolling the dice. good luck

Okay thanks guys. I'll take it to a shop to get it inspected. Anyone know where they sell bare blocks? Or would eBay/ craigslist be my best bet?

A bare block is pretty rare and not something most vendors offer.

I usually search the local classifieds and craigslist for complete engines. Then tear them down and sell/recycle/hoard the parts I don't need. You can find stock 7-bolt 4g63/4g64 long blocks for dirt cheap, especially if the engine jumped time or is being swapped with something else.

Just keep in mind that any used engine parts should still be inspected by a machinist.
