chtown,
i have a 98 gsx with a jdm 6 bolt it smokes a little under boost none at idle and when i drive it hard it smokes some too. SO i did a compression test tonight and #4 was 150 #3 was 143 #2 was 143 #1 was 150 Is this allright even thoe # 2 and 3 are lower?? I was trying to elimante the rings causing the smoke. And there is like no shaft play in the turbo. But i v been told that the turbo could still be leaking on the exhaust side with no shaft play. Is this true?? Thanks guys! Also where is a good spot to order a rebuild kit turbo is a SC61 4" intake inlet 21/2" outlet A/R 70

The compression test looks good. Number 2 and 3 cylinders are around 95% of the other two. I think acceptable can be all the way down to like 75-80% on the lowest cylinder, if I remember correctly. Not sure about the turbo leaking on the exhaust side. What color is the smoke?

what color smoke? Could just be a boost leak or a bad tune. If the smoke is black then you are running rich. Is your bumper black right above your exhaust tip?

Ok the smoke is bluish whiteish mostly blue thoe. So the thing is i think the shaft seal on the turbo is gone. SO where wouldthe best place to buy a turbo seal/rebuild kit at?? Also the compression #'s seeem good?? Thanks!

For six bolt engines, the minimum compression is 114 psi with no more than a 14 psi difference between each cylinder. Your compression numbers look okay to me.

Forced Performance sells rebuild kits, or you can just send the turbo to them and they'll do the rebuild for you.

I have the same turbo and I sent mine to FP for a rebuild and they could'nt get the right parts. Precision has parts that are propietary to them and they would'nt sell the part to fp or even tell them what it was. You have to send it to Precision to get it rebuilt

i be leary about sending any turbos to Precision for rebuild. My buddy had is PTE BB 60-1 rebuild by them and the turbo took a crap only after 1/2 tank of gas. PTE does not warranty of thier rebuilt turbos :notgood:

dont really have a choice. They are the only ones who can get the parts. How long ago did your friend get the rebuild. They sent me a paper with warranty information on my rebuilt turbo. Maybe they changed their policy. I got mine rebuilt back in April.

how much did it cost to get it rubild??? Anywhere else and will they sell me the parts so i can rebuild it my self?? Thanks man!

I dont think they will sell the parts. They told me rebuilds start around $200. Mine cost around $400 plus shipping. It depends on the damage and what needs replaced.

I'm not sure when he send it it and when he got it back but it was between summer of '05 and spring of 06' when he sent it in and blew it after getting it back.
