Well I've been removing and installing the pedal assembly getting really frustrated because I don't know whats wrong.

FIRST, the nut on the threaded portion of the shaft was really loose when I removed it, so I tightened it, welded it, didn't melt and bushings or anything like that. I put it back in and had to adjust the rod all the way out and the clutch would still only engage BARELY, right on the floor.

I took it out and inspected it, the lever springs back all the way like it should with no play, even with the brake pedal.

When I put it in the car, it still was good all the way up until I tried to screw the master cylinder rod into the c-bracket. As soon as I did that, the inch of play came back, and it was a squeaky inch by the way. I tried to watch the end of the shaft where the weld is when I wiggled the inch of play and im pretty sure it was moving like it should.

I did this work after I made sure the slave and master were in working condition, and today the slave cylinder gushed out fluid under the boot when i checked so that must have blown out while i was trying to drive it the first time after i welded it.

What does this sound like??

sounds like you need to stop welding the thing because the heat will melt the seal inside of the cylinder, just buy a new one bro
