Is my clutch toast? 2g dsm gs-t with a lsd

When I was on the highway and in third gear at 4000 rpm with no boost and punch it, the engine gets very loud and and rpms climb rapidly to 7000-8000 with boost at 20lbs. During this, the car does not seem to be pulling as hard as the rpms indicate. At other gears under no boost or low boost the car moves fine.

I just bought this car a couple of weeks ago and it came with an act2600 clutch. If it is the clutch, what do you guys recommend, and what would be the going rate at a shop to do the install? Thanks in advance :).

Sorry, I am a noob. I had a Buick Grand National before this and it is nowhere as complicated as these cars, but going through these forums, you dsm guys seem to now your stuff!

I had a xtd clutch in my 338 torque fwd and the disk springs didnt last long. On the other hand I have had good luck with fidanza clutches.

Interesting, razrman 8. I should try to do that adjustment myself. I have nothing to lose now. The shop could be wrong and maybe just wants to make money off me.

I guess you made that adjustment under the clutch pedal?

That's right, you have nothing to lose. Make sure you have the correct pedal height and freeplay and if that doesn't work then you can think about a new clutch. Good luck:thumb:

yes under the clutch pedal...
and i would deff try that first... cause you dont know wether he tried doing it himself when he had the car... even if he did theres a chance he didnt do it right.. cause i thought i did mine right until i took it out and drove it and the clutch started to slip. youll reach a point where it shouldnt slip and the right play. give her a try tell me what happens :)

It is posts like this that make me love this forum. I haven't had to post much in the 6 years i've been around here, bc i'm always able to find answers to my questions just by searching.

ANYWAY, to this post...

My car started doing that a cpl weeks ago. Drives fine with no or minimal boost, but as soon as it hits a certain point, the car goes nowhere, and it's definitely got that burnt clutch smell. I plan on attempting some adjusting and hope that is the problem, but if not, what clutch would you recommend i put on? My mod list is in my profile.

Today, I took it to a "dsm" (they do work on all forced induction cars) shop and sure enough i need a new clutch. The shop said they had installed the clutch a year ago for the old owner.
They recommended me getting a exedy twin clutch, but from my readings in this forum it seems like overkill. I am still waiting for a call for an estimate.

Excedy makes a good clutch. I wouldnt say thats overkill.

I've heard of a related issue with boosting and getting no acceleration. Obviously, the engine would not be revving further w/o accel., but when my car's front oxygen sensor was defective it caused all kinds of weird acceleration issues.
