Since I bought this car in February, I put about 6000 miles on it and haven't been particularly hard nor particularly easy on the clucth. Recently I think it is slipping but I'm not really sure. Example. Today i was driving on the highway in forth at 60mph 3000 rpm's. When i pressed the gas down the car just seemed to rev until about 4000rpm and not pick up any speed( clutch slipped???) then slowly accelerated while engine rpms dropped to around 3100. Also when going from a stop I've noticed increased chatter and vibration when letting the clutch out slow even without revving high like from 2000 rpms. I've been trying to go easier on the clutch till I find whats wrong and fix it. COuld someone letme know what I need to check and replace, clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel all of the above or something else. Please an help is appreciated

Thanks for the quick responses. How long can I safely drive with the clutch slipping? The reason i ask is because I have to drive about 30 miles to and from college for finals this week three times and also drive 1.5 city miles to work and another 2 city miles to pick up my nephew from school and I have already put about200- 350 miles since I suspected it was starting to go up and about 120 since it started slipping that bad.

It will probably take about a week or so to get the clucthand my friend has told me that if you wear the pad to far then it will be metal on metal and lock up the clutch. Also I am looking for low 12's from my car andwas thinking about a 6 puck style of clutch plate would it be fine or just overkill for a daily driven weekend warrior? Thanks for the help.

sounds like a dying clutch, but the best way to test is to go on the highway at around 55mph in 5th gear.

while cruising, watch your tach and mash the gas pedal to the floor. If the tach rises and then falls, your clutch is slipping. If it rises and keeps rising, your clutch died yesterday.

I did this today coming home from work. The tach climbed from 2250 to about 5500 and then felldown to 2500 and I could feel the car accelerate normally. How long could I safely drive like this? I'm want to install a new clutch as soon as possible butI'll have to wait for parts to come in. Just really need to know if i need to start riding the bus or try to borrow my brother's beat up civic to get to school.

your clutch is on its last leg. you can drive on it ok for a bit, just try to refrain from a few things.

Things like driving on the highway, spooling the turbo, etc.

In the mean time, start thinking about getting yourself a new SPEC stage 3 with a 6 puck.

Ok I ordered A spec stage 3 clutch kit six puck on sunday, and I figured that while the tranny was out I'd get a performance flywheel too, so I can turn a bad clutch into a chance to upgrade. Too bad I dont have the money for a new longer fifth gear to throw in while I'm at it  . Anyway with luck it will be here by the weekend and my clucth won't break or lock up before then. Thanks for the insight and hppy hunting! :dsm:
