Is my clutch slipping?

1 I have a stock clutch and a light weight act 12lbs flywheel, first is the stock clutch able to grab the flyheel without slipping? I have a 14b turbo set at 15psi. After I get over say 4k the rpms really start moving but the car doesn't seem to move as fast as you think it would for how fast the rpms climb.

I don't think that I'm making the kind of power that would cause the clutch not to grab. Also what is the max power rating for the stock clutches.

you can look at my mod list and it will tell you everything else thats done but to me the car is really stock just about.

How many miles are on the stock clutch. How was it driven. What a clutch can take day one, isn't what it's going to handle 100,000 miles down the road after 4k launches.

My clutch went out, and it was the same exact thing that you are describing

its a new clutch it has less than a 1000 miles on it and has never beetn launched

I put a new stock clutch in with just exhaust, downpipe, and intake and it started slipping in high gears shortly after the breakin period. I would recommend a clutch with a little more holding power but you shouldn't need anything to crazy.

Im not planning on going any higher than an evo316g what would be the best clutch for the power out put of that turbo?

I know most people driving AWD's go act 2600. And FWD 2100's

First off, that definitely sounds like your clutch is slipping. Does it rev up fast and then kind-of stop and then your speed seems to catch up to your RPMs again?

Second, me and a couple of friends (both running 16g's) are running act 2100's and it's working out great for all of us; with several hard launches a week.

Something like that. but it catchs grip but at higher speeds it just seems to rev much faster than how fast the speed catches up.

It sounds like its slipping what clutch kit are you using I personally like xtd ebay clutch kit because I have one and everyone else says they are holding up but If you dont like those then I also recommend the 2600 ACT clutch.

I've posted this before somewhere but I'm more inclined to type it again than to go looking for it . . .

1) Get on the highway and go cruise at 55mph in 5th gear.
2) Pedal to the floor. Keep an eye on the tach when you do this.

A working clutch will have a very smooth and "linear" increase in rpm.

A slipping clutch will bump up a bit then either drop down or hover for a moment before steadily increasing.

A completely failing clutch . . . alright well you get it.

The rate and amount of rpm increase will vary of course depending on how badly the clutch is doing, but you will notice a hesitation in its rise if it is in fact beginning to fail.

I had that same problem, but it turned out to be my tranny. I hope its not that in your case. Get a nice SPEC stage 2 clutch (perfect for any 16g) and try that out. If you still have the same problem, get your tranny checked out.

Ok I'll try that but the transmission should be good the mitsubishi did some work on it before i got it. And I have only launched the car 3 times since I've had it so I'm hoping that its just the clutch.

no clutch grabed the hole time.. So I guess Im just not used to having the car witht that kind of power.
