Is my clutch bad?

Hey all,

I did a search and really did not find what I was looking for.. I have a 95 Eclipse GST with an ACT 2100 clutch in it.. Well when I am driving and want to step on the gas more than say 1/2 throttle my engine starts to rev, but really goes nowhere.. It just starts to climb up on the RPM's and does not really gain speed.. Is my clutch going bad or could this be something else? The clutch is not that old, that is why I am asking.. I am running a Big Evo III 16G and it is not handling the power very well. Or is ACT just a shit clutch and need to be replaced either way? Thanks, Shaun

I had a problem like that on my T-AM ( trans-am). It turned out to be the trans going out. The bad thing about that was after I got it rebuilt. I blew the engine. Dont know if that had anything to do with the trans being rebuilt.

Get on the highway and put it in 5th and slow down to about 40. Step on the gas and when boost hits you will know if the clutch is slipping or not.

Yeah in 5th it is real bad.. When I was climbing a hill and started to hit boost the RPM's just crept up real fast and no real response in the car at all..

O well looks like it would be better to get a clutch/flywheel setup anyways with a new TOB.. Has anyone used a Exedy staged clutched before?

How long has the clutch been in the car? Has it done this the whole time you have had it? Before you pull the trans, make sure your clutch pedal is adjusted correctly, maybe the clutch fork is putting some pressure on the PP and your clutch is slipping because there is not enought pressure on the clutch disk.

ACT makes a good clutch. My guess is either the flywheel wasn't machined properly,or maybe you have a leaking rear seal.An inproperly broke in clutch wont last long

IMO there's nothing better than an ACT2600 setup with a XACT Streetlite flywheel. I've used:

-Clutch Masters 4 puck w/ CM Alum. Flywheel: Was uncomfortably stiff and blew the EFF up at the track with only about 2k on it...flew through my bell housing and ruined my tranny and flywheel

-Exedy Kit (Unsure of model) w/ XACT Streetlite Flywheel: no REAL complaints, it just seems like it couldn't handle a launch too well, didn't have it on the car for more tha 1k miles because I really just didn't like the feel of it

-ACT2600 w/ XACT Streetlite Flywheel: Is pretty stiff but not umcomfortably so, has NEVER slipped, and handles/hooks-up very well during a launch.

I would definetly recommend the ACT setup for anyone needing to do a clutch...it's hands down the best IMO.

Not sure about how long it has been on since it was installed when I bought it.. The guy I got it from said it was broke in and all, but when I was driving home and started to notice that I thought WTF!! I will check the pedal adjustment and see if everything is good there.. But like I said I have no way of knowing if it was all done right or not..

Like droppin said put it in 5th at a low speed and boost it. If its the clutch, you will know. It'll stink like all hell.

the clutch feels loose, how do you tighten it? I can push the clutch pedal like a 1/4 way to the flor with my hand without resistance..

I was told it was replaced with the clutch, but who knows.. Guess it looks like I will have to pull it out and replace everything just because..
