alright i got a question for you guys, i am looking for a new car and need someone elses input on whether the car i am looking at is worth it or not. it is a 1997 eagle talon tsi awd with 113,000 miles on it, its has a 14b turbo. a fresh new top end rebuild at 108,000 miles.it needs a new ecu, windshield, and power steering pump. full 3 inch exhaust, new tires with kyb racing struts lowered with camber kit from les schwab, and an awd alignment. just seeing if it is worth my time and effort and the 3700 the guy wants for it.

Take him $3300 and bet you walk away with the car. Those are easy fixes. Check for strut tower rust. You dont wanna be dealing with a whole lot of that issue. From your post I see that it needs a new ecu and thats all? Well you can get an ecu for around $150-$200.

I did a KKB on a 97 TsiAWD with 113,000 miles and I guessed 5-speed. The private party price is $4000 in fair condition and $4500 in good condition. Both of those conditions assume the car is in reasonable running condition. Since you need to replace the windsheild and power steering pump that makes the price go down.
The needs a new ECU is based on what? When was the timing belt replaced? When were all fluids changed? Things like that also affect the selling price.
Though a full 3 inch exhaust, new tires with kyb racing struts lowered with camber kit adds to the price, but no where near what he paid for them.
My advise is have him replace the ECU so the car will run. There could be more than just an ECU problem and you do not want to find that out after buying the car. If he gets her running smooth, then offer maybe $3300. You'll still need some money to buy a windshield and power steering pump.

Welcome to the Forum :)

i am in contact with the seller, as soon as he gives me valid information and proof of why it needs a new ecu, i will let you know.

also would you guys recommend i stay with trying to get a talon tsi awd or get an eclipse gsx or gst? just seeing what you prefer and would recommend. i know the talon and eclipse are almost identical but just seeing which you prefer.

so do you guys prefer an awd or a fwd, i know both have their pros and cons but which would you prefer?

okay so the seller responded saying it needs a flashable eprom metal case from a 95.... what is your take on this information?

Depends on what you're doing with it. Awd is great for "hooking up" in drag racing and keeping grip in autoX and road racing. Fwd is lighter, simpler and has less stuff to break and is fine for a souped up daily driver. Doesn't mean there aren't plenty of fast fwd race cars, awd is just more desirable given Mitsu's miracle awd system.

Again, depends on your plans for the car.

The price is now 4100. You think I don't have internet?

Gee whiz, what a welcome.

What are you buying this car for? DD? Track? 1/4 mile? Autox? Mpg? Do you like to body style of a 2ga, 2gb, talon, or eclipse better?

Deciding between the talon and eclipse basically comes down to your taste in the appearance of them, and looking at 3 diamonds everyday, or an eagle emblem everyday. (given you don't cover them up)

You can answer you're own questions here.... :)

ROFL but...

I just did a KBB value for a WA TsiAWD.....guess what? SAME PRICES

They were all made in Ill in the same factory. Personally, I like the looks of Talons in 1st Gen and Eclipses in 2nd Gen.

im not saying the prices are different by state im saying this guy doesnt live anywhere near washington so why is he trying to buy it....or why is he acting like he is the one selling it.....

This thread is all over the place. Why not answer the op's questions before asking your own?

Personally id stay away if he says its the ecu and you can not hear the car run. Or find someone in the area that will let you use their ecu? It might have a popped ecu and a popped motor.

So it has an ecu but missing the case? WTF Or missing the ecu all together? It sounds shady.

yeah it is sounding shady, he didnt specify, ill ask him if its just the case that is missing or the whole ecu... if it is the whole ecu, what are some other problems that could be present with the car?

The eprom ecu's are more valuable and more rare then "non eprom". There might be no other problems. He could have sold it or burned it up, it happens. Had to replace a few caps on mine, luckily it wasnt too late and i was able to save it.

But it doesnt "have" to have an eprom ecu, any standard (non eprom) ecu should do as far as i know. If you plan to make some power you will need an eprom though.

This link might help.

the owner says its his daily driver and that it throws a cec becuase there is a problem with the current ecu that is in the car
