Is it worth it (potential buy)?

I'm looking at picking up another dsm for cheap so I can work on it over the vacation to keep me busy and have another awd for the snow. I'm looking at a 1992 Eagle Talon tsi awd with 120k miles on it, 95% stock just has some glow shift gauges(boost, a/f and oil temp)and a cold air intake. It has a new 14b turbo on it but he went to do the timing on it and the belt slipped a few teeth and bent some valves. The interior and exterior is in MINT shape with no rust at all. It does come with another head that has been used but in working order and a few other spare parts. I feel capable of doing all the work my self and I offered him 900$ and he said he would take it. Does this seem like a fair price on it?

$900 seems fair for a car that will cost a few hundred to get up and running properly. I bought a 92 TSi AWD for $900 w/ 137,000 miles. Exterior is badddd, clear and paint on the top of the car was completely gone. All stock minus exhaust on it. The transmission was making noises though underload, it lasted about 10,000 miles before a bearing ate through the casing, I had a spare trans rebuilt for it which was around $750 with parts and labor. If the exterior is good like you say I think $900 is pretty fair for it. I don't think I would pay any more than $1100 for a non-running DSM unless it had some serious mods.

Personally, i would hop on it. Sounds like its in nice shape, and will be cheap to get going again, which are both pluses in my book. Only thing i would worry about is the damage to the pistons, but if it only slipped a few teeth you might be ok.

Boy, if its mint I'd jump on it for the shell, I drove my 1990 tsi home 90 miles for $900, with 130k miles on it, but it was NOT mint by any definition...

I would take it for that. 1gs arent worth much usually anyways
