Just dropped the transmission a few minuets ago to realign the clutch and noticed that the output shaft has in & out plus side to side play,is this normal?what do I do?how much will it cost?can I do it my self?

Thanks and I think I know where its alignment issues in the past came from.......me!Probably did it trying to force the trans to bolt up to the motor and then later realizing that the clutch might not be lined up.:cry:Can I run it like this,I know it wont last me long but I need a car now.just to give you an idea how much play were talking.in and out is ] [ and side to side is ] [.(god I hope this is normal play)

p.s. also the center of the clutch disc is loose too.

Don't know about the shaft play, seems kinda normal to me. As for the clutch disc, it should be pretty(read very) solid with the pressure plate bolted up. That is why you need the alignment tool to line the friction disc up and then clamp it down with the pressure plate.

Bro, Take it from someone who has been there done that.:toobad:
If you have any play in the Input or output shafts of a transmission. Or are just worried it "Might" be worn, Replace the seal and bushing. Even go as far as to order a new shaft from autozone or some where local to compare yours to the new shaft.

To many times I have seen friends not repair their shaft bushings while only replacing the seals. To only have a nasty leak that burns up a clutch in a week, Or poors fluid all over the ground.
One of my supra buddies, went through 3 clutch's just a couple months because he did not replace the input shaft bushing. His input shaft had only about 3mm of movement at the tip of the shaft... Just enough to keep killing shaft seals and tossing Tranny fluid all over the clutch.

Me... I hate doing clutch swaps. Find it to be the most irritating job on any vehical next to swapping tourqe converters :notgood:.

Do it right from the start and you will be mutch happier in the long run.

In and out play is somewhat acceptable. side to side is a nono (this is bushing to shaft wear, causes worn seals)!
