shaft play on 14b is some normal?

i just picked up a 14b from a guy who said it was from a jdm 4g63 he imported or whatever with 35k on it, who knows if thats true but anyways, how much if any shaft play is normal?

im new to turbo and i was noticed 4 holes, oil feed, return, then what apears to be coolant feed and return... is this correct and does it matter what way it flows?

Shaft play is normal only for a turbo on its last legs. A healthy turbo should have minimal play or none at all.

i can move it in and out a little, not side to sideit also has no oil in it it that matters.. so this turbo is probly not too good?

Hypothetical situation, you jack up a car and move the tire to make sure its stable. It may move VERY little or none at all. This is about as much play as a turbo should have. It should either have NO shaft play or little shaft play (to the point you can barely tell).

Journal bearing turbos will always have a little bit of play...you guys really should know this. If the blades hit the inside of the compressor housing when you move it, its bad. Theres no exact science to it, there will always be a little (unless its ball bearing), but alot is bad...

IT'S bad when it starts blowing smoke. use it until then.
