Hx35 shaft play normal?

Slight shaft play is normal and I say slight. If the turbo hasn't had any oil in a while it will have a little more than normal. So running oil through it will help.
Try to get a video of how much you have.

My HX35 has zero shaft play and it's got 48k on it. With oil the shaft play will go down because of the oil film on the bearings.

so the guy said it was rebuilt 1500 miles ago by holset and it has the alignment marks on the nut but it does not have any oil in it. Can i just pour some oil in it and then check the play again? I really thought they shouldn't have any shaft play even without oil?

My HX-40 sat for a while after a fresh rebuild. I then took it out to change the turbine housing and noticed side to side shaft play ( no in and out). I contacted the rebuilder and he told me that it's normal if the turbo has been sitting for a while with no oil. I don't know how true that is though.

It is true. Yes pour a tablespoon of oil into the feed hole. And spin the shaft. You're lateral play should leave completely (in-out). Radial play should be reduced, but not to zero. If you still have some lateral play, it wasn't rebuilt recently.
