Is a logger and S-AFC 2 good enough to tune?

I'm going to be running this set up -

650cc injectors
255 hp rewired
t04b
full 3' exhaust
AFPR

That's the main fuel type set up. Will a logger and SAFC 2 be enough to run efficently? I don't have an EPROM so DSMLINK is outta the question unless I spend the 800 bucks on that total. I already have a logger so adding $200 - $250 for the SAFC is obviosuly alot less.

Thanks!

noob question..so u need a logger and a s-afc..to see what im doing..or just a s-afc alone? OMG

you need the logger to see how much fuel adjustment you need to make. wouldn't be a bad idea to also get a wide band air/fuel gauge.

im looking for a palm m100 on ebay..ill get one and then that pocketlogger program(or does someone recomend a different program?)

Kinda stealing the orginal poster's question but 720's with a 50trim would be too much for the SAFCII to handle?
Maybe, maybe not. I dont have actual experience with that but you will be leaning the ECU so much that your timing may go through the roof. Maybe someone else can shed some light on a setup like yours.

You can use the MMcd software, which is free.

720cc's are just too big of a leap from stock (450cc's) and you will run out of effective range dialing them down with just an AFC. You can, but it will be a big PITA and your timing will be a mess.

I personally recommend the Pocketlogger program. You get full support from Mike at Digital Tuning if you ever have any problem unlike the "free" stuff. I have heard mine for 2-3 years running and couldn't have been more happier with that investment. I have seen alot of people have problems with MMcd so I can not vouch or recommend it to anyone. :thumb:

Pick up a Palm for cheap and you should be set. As someone else suggested, a WB would be a big +. :thumb:

That setup looks fine to me. I wouldnt go bigger than 660s though as they will likely be too much for the AFC to handle.

I wholly agree on that. Even with a SAFC, logger, and my MAFT....my 780s are too much, which is probabaly the main reason why tuning(the rare chance I get to do it) never works out.

Too add to the other question that was asked, I have a 56 trim turbo with these 780s. I honestly would have to say from my experience any injectors larger than 660s on a non-full race car, is purely overkill. As soon as I can spare time from work, my 780s are getting ****canned.

Not neccessarily. ;) If you want to run alot of boost on a big turbo on pump gas, you need bigger injectors. There's really no way around that. I would hang onto them a little longer if I were you. :thumb:
Get a chip (compensating the injectors/dead time) and the tuning should get much smoother and easier. Trying to compensate for those injectors with only the AFC and MAF-T is the problem. :thumb:

Well noted, thanks. :thumb:. As for chips, what do you have in mind? I'll look today while I'm at work....

DSMChips.com Jeff O makes some awsome features along with injector compensation. You'll need a 95 EPROM ECU for your 99 though so be prepared to spend $250 on the new ecu and $125 for the chip. The chips WELL worth the money though, I ran one for a long time and just now moved to DSMLink for control over timing for some easier pump gas tuning. The chip makes tuning with a piggy back SO much easier.
