Interior painting [Merged 7-9] paint trim plastic plastics

krylon fusion is for plastic. ive heard horror stories about people painting their dash with it.

If you really want it to come out good i would reccommend taking out your dash again. In my opinion that would be easier than taking out the windsheild. I have been painting my interior from the stock light gray to black. I have been using Dupli-color's vinyl and fabric spray paint. As long as the surface is clean and free of dirt/oils, it bonds great and doesnt scratch/flake off. I even used it on the flexible armrest(1g) and it is still holding strong.

Kylon fusion will not work that great on the dash. it is made for plastics. i used SEM vinyl paint. it worked great. and i do recommend taking out your dash again. if you dont it will not spray evenly at the edge at the windshield. just my opinion

I sprayed mine in my car. All the black. Get a bunch of news papers and mask off your windshield. I've done 5 interiors, and not one of them did I take the entire dash out. Just mask everything.

thats what i wanted to hear LOL.

the dash is black now from the other crap i used. i just want to use a light coat on with the krylon paint. so if i dont get down to the edge near the windshield, it doesnt matter that much.

thanks for all your help guys, im going to attempt it this week.

The trunk area on the project car I just bought is pretty scuffed and scratched. What do you guys recommend I use to cover the dents/scratches/scuffs before painting it?

Fusion is no good on vinyl. And if you sprayed it onto the color you just layed down all it is going to do is bond to the paint...not the dash like you would rather want. If you layed down a hard paint like the Fusion over the dye paint which isn't holding great already then it will probally peel off like a hard boiled egg shell.
Do it over, prep WELL, and use the proper paint for the material and you'll do fine.

I have seen some pictures with painted dash, door panels, etc.. Do you have to use any type of "primer" or anything like that to get the paint to stick nicely? If you have any info let me know

i used krylon fusion in black on my interior panels. It works awesome to be honest. It doesnt chip at all

primer and wet sanding works good. I had my parts dyed to match and I am having some sprayed kandy blue to match my flames. :thumb: I would never spray paint my parts again- it just didn't work out well even when I got it right.

thanks guys. i take it you dont have to prep the plastic other then cleaning it for the krylon fusion? Wastefuldreamer where did you get your white gauge faces?

i used silver wheel paint and 200000000 coats of clear on mine.
prep was sanding all texture off - clean - paint.

dave- why did you use wheel paint? what grit sandpaper did you use? where did you get your white face gauges from? thanks

I wouldn't recommend using paint on the interior. A dye works a lot better and is was the professionals use on all the interior pieces.

f4st, dave used wheel paint probably because it is thinker than other paints, so it fills in the texture in the panels. also, i gave my ride the krylon touch, and it works better than great. the only prep you need to do is cleaning. you don't need to sand anything! if you want the "smooth" look, get some fiber glass resin, and apply it with a foam brush. do at least 3 THIN coats before you sand, it easier that way. then you just sand it smooth, and paint. i'd do and least 10 thin coats of paint as well. then let it dry for 7 days and clear coat it, if you want to. fusion get so hard you don't really need clear anyways. good luck

krylon fusion is the best stuff man all i did was clean it up good and paint my entire interior one bit of advise buy lots of paint and use many many ever so light coats this makes the best results my interior is now smurf blue and white ill hafta post pics tonite
when i get home from prison (school)

I dont' know about you guys, but I used that Fusion Paint in my other car, and the stuff chipped, faded, and wore off. I had it on my dash pieces, and on the door panel runners and a few other places. I was very disapointed. I thought it was the biggest BS in the world. I don't know about you guys though. I had it on my computer monitor and keyboard, it is almost all worn off my keyboard, and the monitor has more chips and worn colors around the on button then ever. I don't know... Maybe it's just me. Am I doing something wrong or what? LMK PLEASE!

well i had symilar problems when i tested the paint on some old festiva panels i had. i found that this was because i didnt use light coats

my car now has 12 coats on it you have to use such light coats that it dosent even fully cover at all till about the 5th one on some of the places that i know human interation is probable i cleared over top the krylon

damn i really need to post my pics but srry i lied i cant tonite i juss made plans to go see my gurl srry guys

one last question. do alot of professional paint shops dye stuff also. is the pricing to dye trim pieces pretty reasonable?
