Ok dude... my question still stands. I understand how the forums work man, if you don't have input then don't post. If you read those threads all the way through instead of doing a quick search and posting them on here telling me to search to prove something (if you weren't then cool, no pun intended) you would have seen they do NOT answer ym questions.

does anyone know of any better paint to buy and where to buy it to work well with vinyl?

Aparantly my pic didn't work but I had used the duplicolor vinyl crap and it aint cutting it. If you have a suggestion then feel free to help out...simple as that :thumb:

As of right now I am just considering reupholstering them.

I have the same question, specifically my glove box, everytime I paint it, its sticky and does not cure to the surface. I was thinking of just primering it and then using the cheap dupli-color....I used Krylon Fusion which is *SUPPOSED* to bond to plastics and vinyl...DONT get this stuff thats for sure...the paint didn't go on right or stay worth a crap on various components in the car.

its mainly high gloss that remain sticky, especially in hot climates, i had the same problems with my interior, so i used a flat color white and it came out fine, pics are in gallery if ya wanna check it out. :dsm:

Well I tried those to... I tried the fusion and I tried teh dupli color fabric/vinyl stuff and none if it is bonding well at all.

Have any of you guys tried to maybe rough up vinyl with some high grit sand paper, primer then paint it? Thanks for the sticky tip to... I read that earlier during my search about you and the hot weather but thanks...

Do you guys knw of anything else that HAS worked for vinyl aside from the Krylon Fusion and the Duplicolor? I don't want to have to reupholster this biotch... thanks

The only paints i'm aware of are Krylon Fuzion and Dupli-color. I use dupli-color on my interior, and it seems to be doing just fine even after almost a year.

Take care when prepping. Rough up the vinyl/leather with 1500 or 200 grit sandpaper (this is fine enough that the scratches won't show). By rouching it up you allow the paint to stick a little better, and clean it with alcohol or acetone. Maybe even try a few layers of primer before hand. A bunch of super super light layers should get the job done if prepped well.

Go to a Craft store or an upholstery store and see about some leather/vinyl dye. Perhaps that would be a better bet.

BTW..
Well i guess I'm sorry for posting to a few threads where, or so i thought, the question was answered. I really don't appreciate you calling me a n00b. Simply because im fairly new to the website means absolutely nothing about my knowlwdge; granted I may not be Tuners Wiseman by any means, but i surely am not a n00b. THanks for understanding.

Maybe give this stuff a try:

http://www.bryndana.com/

It used to be called Molecubond, I guess they changed the name. You should be able to find it at Wal-Mart. I picked up a few cans for the future, but I havent tried it yet. Its supposed to work on all surfaces, including vinyl.

I have heard of that and seen it on a buddies car. He used it on plastics and it came out good, I just did not think it would work for vinyl. Thanks for the links guys! I think I might try that SEM :)

I just re-did the interior of my car, I sprayed it down with the cheap automotive paint from walmart in the automotive section, let it dry for about 20 minutes, sprayed again, let it dry for about 20 minutes, sprayed again, let it dry for about 20 minutes. Finally I put flat black on, let it dry for about 15, sprayed another coat, let it dry for an hour. Then I did a clearcoat on it, and let it dry overnight. Everything turned out fine, no sticking. Krylon paint sucks, Dupli-color though cheaper seems to work better.

Well when i had my integra, i just used High Heat engine paint and that worked more then fine. And used High Heat engine clear. All turned out well and lasted forever.

For the plastic parts I would suggest sanding down the texture then priming, wet sanding, painting, and finally clear coating it. Do it just as if you were painting an outside body panel. I tried painting the interior parts in my trunk just to have them flake off over time. If you do it the way I mentioned it should not flake off. What happens is no matter how much you clean it the Armor All or whatever you have used on your car's interior just doesnt' seem to come off unless you clean it with plastic prep and then sand it.

For the vinyl I have painted some vinyl parts in the past with a vinyl paint I bought at PepBoys but I am currently doing my whole interior and what I have done this time is fiberglass over the vinyl inorder to get a smooth surface and a good surface for the paint to bond to.

I will post pics of my interior when it is done, hopefully within the next month.

I am thinking about painting the interior of my 91 tsi, but i dont know what colors would look good. The car is white, and i have blue calipers and underbodies. What colors would go good with my colors?

Trying to paint my interior and the paint keeps bubbling. Its doesn't really bubble but more like blotting w/ small pinholes. Whats causing this? I cleaned the pieces using rubbing alcohol and I'm using the fusion paint but its just not putting down a good coat. Any suggestions?
=Jason-

sand them down, i dunno maybe using primer so it'll stick better...u might be holding the can to close, sounds like ur caking it on there pretty crazy, just use lighter coats. This didnt happen to my interior when i used fusion

the paint isn't bonding with the vinyl. meaning you probably didn't prep it enough. If i were you i'd go over it again with some wet sand 1000 or 1500 and reapply in thinner layers

btw - wetsanding is sanding with 1000 or 1500 grit with the paper AND surface wet with water  [ in case somebody was gonna ask ]

I recommend sanding them back down, put at least two coats of primer on followed by whats called "Bulldog Adhensive Promoter" from walmart, this helps the paint bond better. Then do two coats of paint and about 3 or 4 coats of clearcoat.

i used some prep all container that you rub on
then bought dupli color filler primer did 2 coats
then bought black dupli color and painted them and got clear coat and sprayed it tot he parts i wanted glossy. i did that for door and rear panels for the
thepillars and tiop panels i got bondo and placed some on everything . sanded it don to the desired smoothnes. then used 1000 sand paper sanded used dupli color primer black for my choise then black glossy paint same from dupli color and then clear coated. looks awesome ill post pics when im done. but it came out great

Sounds like one of two things to me, Either:

1) You still have some oil or something on the panels and they were completely clean.

2) You are putting to think of a coat of paint on.

Go to your local NAPA or Auto Paint store and buy a can of "Plastic Prep" I believe it is made by 3M. Sand off the paint you already have on your panels back down to the plastic. Spray on the Plastic Prep and clean the panel thoroughly. Then prime with a high build primer, wet sand, and paint.

When you paint you want to use slow and steady motions across the panel so as not to put it on too thick. You want light thin coats not thick heavy coats.

Has anyone tried G2 dye in their interior? Supposedly it never bubbles or flakes off even with a screwdriver attack. Problem is it's expensive, like $10 a can I think.

Try REALLY thin coats. After sanding/primer/etc... When I say Really, I mean spray the can from like a good foot away. Spray for a second or two to the point where you can barely see the paint on the plastic. Then wait about 2 or 3 minutes. This is called "Flash" time. Then spray a second light coat. Then repeat. Seriosly when I paint something I take a few coats. Less paint per coat always makes for a better finish, and better adhesion.

Your prep work also prob. has A LOT to do with it, but everyone already pointed that out. Oh, and check the temp./humidity reccomended on the can. If its humid it can cause inperfections. Hope that helps. :thumb:

I am in the process of painting my interior red. I painted all my trim pieces, my glove box, my center console bottom, my door panels, the trimplate around the window controls, the rear seat upper plastic part and the entire rear hatch. The only thing I am having problems with painting is these

Koolade9 doesnt accept private messages, so I couldn't ask him how he painted his. The problem I am having is that my paint doesn't dry. It stays sticky forever it seems.

Any ideas on how i might fix this?

P.S. I am using Krylon Red Pepper plastic bonding paint, which btw is almost a perfect match for the color of my car (Sarona Red).
