the problem is i did mine in white, so its gets dirty really easy and shows the dirt, then the clear is not good enought to keep it nice... i may give all the parts to a guy a know that works at a body shop to paint it and clear coat it really good

I have a few interior painting questions.

I plan on using SEM paint to paint my dash and center console. i want it to last for a long time and not chip. I went to their site and found there are diferent things to use. On is SEM sand free, SEM plastic prep, and then the SEM paint itself. It says to use the sand free first before applying a color coat so do i clean off the surface throughlly, the put on the sand free, then plastic prep then color. OR do i put on the plastic prep, then the sand free??? If you have used SEM before, please let me know what you did and how its holding up, Thanks

i used SEM...you dont need to use both. use the sand free for vinyl pieces, like the dash. use the plastic prep stuff for all the plastic pieces. in either case clean really well before hand, and then spray your actual paint in light coats. mine is holding up extremely well after 6 months.

I was sitting im my 1G and i was thinking i need a change. Maybe someting that would look stock but be custom. First my plan for a long time would be to do a custom fiberglass piece along the bottom of my door and and have it cave in around the speaker grill. then i was going to make a custom piece or the piece thats above the armrest and make that match the bottom part of the door. Then i thought about painting the rest of the door a satin black. Then i would do the rest of the dash in that satin black and do some of the trim pieces in a metallic graphite color. can someone give me some opinion about my ideas and tell me how i could do it without it looking like #@%#@%#@%#@%.

thanks for the help, i was hoping you would respond to this post because i have seen your interior pics and i know you used sem. BTW, i just bought the chiltons book and it helps alot. Now i should haven no trouble with the interior. BTW, is vinyl the kinda leather type stuff? if now , what exactly is it?

well what i did was make my carpet black by buying some custom fitted carpet, then i got the black and gray seats that came stock in some 1g's. Then i dyed all my interior pieces black and got white gauges, white HVAC faces and last - i looked it over and found all the places where a hint of the gray thats in the seats would look good and painted those pieces gray. toke about 300-500 dollars to do it all but the interior looks AWESOME. Oh and i changed out the under dash lights with some blue ones that have a soft glow so when i open the doors its blue. Other than that its just a matter of taste. My gauges are all back lit blue and i replaced the ring on the steering column and the lighter with blue ones. I still have some stuff to do but so far it looks good and i didnt mess with any of the "stock" curves.

Stupid question, but how did u guys take apart the dash part to paint. I can never manage to take the dash out to paint it. Thanks.

alright, i just got a red shiftboot and shiftknob and i want to paint the interior inserts red to match like how you always see people do but i didnt know wich kinda paint to use, should i spray paint then just use clearcoat? i dunno... suggestions plz? OMG

Ok.. I recently began ripping into the plastiques of the rear of my 95 hatchback. Overall Goal: To paint all red, with bright blue highlights.
Paint used:
Grey Primer
Exterior Auto paint .
Exterior Clear Coat.
It took 2 coats of primer. 2 full coats of color. 2 coats of clear.
Heres the problem: The pieces that I painted are sooooo Friggin delicate now!
Is that normal? Did I use the wrong type of paint?
I will be tearing the dash apart, perhaps this weekend. I would like to make the dash look like the VERY high gloss ones I have seen. You know what I am talking about? The type that looks like its been laquered? How in the heck do I accomplish a look like that?
Thanks for the feedback..

what i did was i took all the pieces off and put all the pieces in my sink. i then took simple green ( mean green same thing) and soaked the pieces in the stuff. i just sprayed it on and let it sit so it would take off the all chemicals that were one the pieces. i then rinsed them off and did it again. after this time i wiped them off and let them dry over night. the went and got painted mixed up at a body shop. i got vinyl/plastic paint with flexible laquer mixed up for me. i took the pieces and sprayed them with plastic prep and air brushed the pieces with an air bursh gun. i only had to use one coat and then i used 6 coats of laquer that was compatible with the paint. i let them dry and cure for 3 days becuase thats how long the paint takes to dry and cure then i just put them in. i havent had any pieces chip/fade/scratch or anything like that yet. and it has been 4 months. i would recommend doing it with an air bursh gun though beacuse i did some friends with interior spray paint and it bubbled and ran bad and it turned out just horrible. although that was also on 3 different honda so haha . if i confused you or anything just pm me or im me and ill re explain better. hope this helped

if you have access to a well vented area that is warm then go ahead and do it. i painted mine in our factory in a spraying booth and just let it dry in my basement. as long as it drys at room temp it should be fine

I would like to paint the dash of my talon but I am a little sure of how I should go about doing so. If anyone can help please respond! Thanks.

i did it to my old prelude. first thing. use vinal paint. if you dont it will never lay down right. i was lucky enough that my lude had a small dash in it (91) and i didnt have to pull it out in order to get it all. im really not sure on a talon though. i would think that you could just tape everything off really good and it would be ok. but then again your car is gonna smell like paint forever.

dont paint your interior. it looks ####ing retarded. i did it to my laser and a month down the road i was kicking myself in the ass for doing it, i hated it so much.
