hey everyone
im just lookin for some help... i wanna do the interior of my car.... wat paint would u prefer? and any tips and how to do it?
thanx alot i appreciate the help...
zack

i think if you you want it to last, prime it first and get that vinyl interior paint. i screwed up and didnt prime it and used it without primer, gloss whit / black, i left my window down a little bit, it rained and the paint on my door flaked off. take your time and do it right or you'll regret it. it will look like ass:cry:
ps dont get carried away

i agree. i changed the color of my preludes interior from brown to black, and although it took over a week of working 3-7 hours a day on it, it looks like a factory job. vinal paint is absolutly nessessary for this. any other paint will never stick to it. good luck.

I changed my interior from that "lovely shade of tan" to black and yellow. Order your paint and the primer for JC Whitney. Its a little pricier than the stuff from auto zone but it looks great and I don't have any trouble with it. Oh and by the way. TAKE YOUR TIME!! Don't hurry it and do just what the can says to. You won't be sorry

yes i would deffenetly go with SEM i used their paint and clear coat i only had to use one coat of paint and i use 12 - 14 coats of clear coat on each piece and its holding on good

They make different types of primer. I personally like the plastic primer. No preperation except for throughly cleaning the pices you are about to paint. The plastic primer goes on clear, and kind of acts like glue, then paint, dry, clear coat, use multiple layers of clearcoat for durability. Your done. $5-$10 a can for the primer. $3-$15 a can for paint and clear coat. All depends on what brand you use.

1) first i wanna take off the panel to be painted
2) i want to clean it up really well
3) prime it
4) put a couple coats of SEM paint on (obviously giving it plenty of time to dry in between)
5) put around 10 coats of clear on (is that many really nesecary?)

Just wondering if i have it mostly right....i have intentions on painting my whole interior white/blue this spring and i want it to be the best job possible...im not really worried about penny pinching just so it looks proffessional :thumb:

thanx
Nate :dsm:

hey matt, you could order a vinyl dash cover from jcwhitney or where ever they sell them.

or you could be risky and just tape it all up and paint it...im in the same situation about that.

I have all this done so far...my center console completely done, the gauge bezel, the instrument cluster, the stereo, the plastic panels throughout the car, the speaker grills, the door panels...

and i only have the carpet, the hatch pieces, the seats, the steering wheel, and the big dash piece left...and i dont know how im gonna do the last pieces...i dont wanna mess everything up but also dont wanna spend a thousand or so to replace the carpet and seats.

take out the dash if you can. i left min in when i did it and the paint didnt coat or stick as well up by the vent near the window. if i rub my finger up there, it gets a fine coating of white paint on it, so i know it didnt stick right.

I know this was probably allready posted but tomarrow me and my friend are going to work on painting my interior accents with a red and white color scheme. Today we tried to figure out how to take it all a part and were having problems with the door stuff. Handles, vents, all that stuff. Even the vents and trim above were the air conditioning control is. All we could get off was the trim around the air condtitioning control.

For the center consol, am I able to pop off the change tray thats a darker black? mines all faded. My car is a 96 RS if it makes a difference. Is that glued on? We couldn't prye it off

Is there some tips you guys have? I am too nervous to brake the peices trying to pull them off.

Do you guys also have pics of your interiors so I can decide what parts I am going to paint what color?

Thanks for the help you guys. I will post pics when it gets finished.

Do all eclipses have change trays? I know my Talon doesn't. Most of the stuff in the car should be able to pried out with a flat screw driver. If your worried about breaking, just start to pry and keep using pressure until it feels like it's gonna snap, then try from a different direction. But most of your panels should come out farely simple. Good luck. Sorry I'm not much help about the change tray.

what about all my other questions?

The change tray in the middle of the console, can it be removed or do I have to paint it while it's attached to the whole center console?

just pull up on it, it should come out, same with the cupholder

did you say red and white?

That's awesome, do it yourself? I am just doing some trim accents, vents, handles, etc. I am not going all out and doing my dash and door yet, im thinking I will leave that to a professional

Any other tips? Right now my car is looking pretty ghetto, all ripped apart. Hopefully we will get the primer done today (me and my friends dont have much free time) and maybe get a few layers of paint on each peice...

How many layers of paint do you recomend? And should I let the paint dry for a day, then add some clearcoat or what? Keep in mind I have never painted anything before, I dont know what I am doing wich is why I ask for you guys help.

Do you guys have pictures of your painted interiors? So I can get an idea of the methot and orginization I like best. (I am not going to toally steal your exact positioning, just maybe take a few ideas from multiple people)
