So about 5 years ago, I bought my galant in pieces, pieced the interior back together, bought a used built engine in good shape, had my head resurfaced and 3g lifters, all stock for the most part and went at it. It took me about 5 broke ass years buying parts when I could, COUNTLESS tows to each new place I moved, months of storing it in the garage.

Well on its maiden voyage home yesterday, I was driving and she shut down all of a sudden. The engine would still turn over while decelerating in gear but it wouldn't run.

Then once stopped the engine wouldn't turn over, there was no power anywhere. So i figured that the car was running off the battery and the alternator was shot...
Pulled the battery, trickle charged it and went back a few hour later and it wouldnt' run. So I tow it home and woke up this morning, fixed the rear mounted battery cable issue and this is what I found...

I've had nightmares about getting this car running due to something like this happening. I have been so hesitant to finish it because once this happen, the dream would be dead.
I am so emotionally drained from this it almost doesn't seem to have phased me. I dont even want to think about what the piston looks like. I tried to pull this rare car out of the junkyard and an 8 dollar part ends up screwing me. I have thousands into this car and now its all for nothing. I'm so heartbroken.

man thats shitty! i know how you feel though. don't be too heartbroken though, you've came a hell of a long way and saved an increasingly rare car from the grave. thats something to be proud of! if i were in your shoes (and have been and know what its like to be totally exhausted and tired of working on a car and just want to drive it) i would just sit on it for the rest of the summer and work on it over the winter. or maybe just hold off until next spring and start on it then when you aren't so pissed at it and have some more patience with it.

Do you recall who made the 3G lifters that you used (Topline, ITM, etc)? Who did you purchase them from?

I dont remember the make of the lifters, I purchased them so long ago. I do know that they only had two crimp marks around the ring. This particular lifter had HALF a crimp mark...
This goes to show you that building slow and steady DOES NOT win this race.
