Ok I recently purchased a slowboy racing stage 1 block. It has LESS than 2,000 miles on it, and I am starting to hear heavy knocking from what seems to be right below the head of the motor. I checked the turbo and it's fine, I originally thought it was my throw out bearing but engaging my clutch does nothing to get rid of it. It is constant, but I have no power loss AT ALL... in fact the motor is running great, with the exception of the knocking.

Any ideas on what this could be?!

Did i just talk to you??

Joe

Yea Joe, it's Jordan we just talked.

I'm going to do what Joe from SBR told me to, we're gonna check the oil for metal shavings, and check the tranny for a lose flywheel, and check the Throwout bearing as well. I'll post results sometime tomorrow.

ok.. good answer.. Im guessing you didnt prime the oil before start, which can spin a bearing, which will throw a rod, which will cause your motor to knock like crazy.. if its high pitched, fast ticking, its the head.. if its low and below the head, then its more than likely a rod.. how tight did you tighten down the bolts to the flywheel?

correction:

"I originally thought it was my throw out bearing but engaging my clutch does nothing to get rid of it. "

I can almost say 100% its not the flywheel/clutch, because you would feel/hear a difference in it if you were to push in the clutch and let it out... you would feel it vibrating or something... its a rod.. that is the doctors prognosis...

Hey guys update on the situation.

Emptied the oil out, and it's clean. Then I went under the car to see if the noise was coming from the tranny. Nothing.

Took off the brand new alternator, put on another one... problem solved.

There were NO metal shavings in the oil, so thank god it's not a bearing of any kind. These are eagle rods I wouldn't expect them to go anytime soon... so luckily it's not them.

The noise is completely gone now with a replacement of the alternator.

Thanks for all the help, and suggestions.... you fear mongers. :)

i spun a rod bearing and found metal shavings in my oil pan. my question is that can i just replace the bearing and be alright? only the number 1 cylinder rod bearing is out. already have it tore apart and need to know if i can just replace the one bearing. oh and sorry for jumping in on your post. i really needed some help on this.

Do not base your next move by my information alone!

Now with that said, I believe that once you spin a bearing, the rod is usually no good. I'm guessing that it depends how bad the bearing is as well as the rod and cap. I'll let someone else elaborate more, but this is what I've been told.

You can have rods "Resized".. I would however, buy a new or perfect used version.

I had an eagle rod spin a rod bearing in 80 miles, dont say it cant happen.

Hopefully I will have her back up and running this weekend after a little over 4 months being down.
