Straight up, what is this and where could it of come from!?

This is the stock SIMC from my 97 GSX. Was just finishing up the install on the rebuild and I decided to clean the intake pipes with a little gasoline, you know, get that little bit of oil out and start fresh.

Noticed this in the SIMC from the intake side. It has the feel of rubber and just crumbles in your hands.
Ideas?

Also, keep in mind, this is what the compressor wheel looks like. I think it's from oil. You bet there's a catch can on there now.

No kidding!!
Just to be clear, thats the bottom of the SIMC, directly from the turbo. there is none of that showing from the top of the SIMC and it's not in any of the pipes, intake, or turbo.
It feels like rubber, but falls apart as soon as you apply any pressure
sooo, WTF?!

Looks like your turbo ingested something foreign. Hence the mashed blades. Got any shaft play?

I'm putting my money down on either some rubber from the piping or someone took off the pipe or filter with the car running to "See what it was like".

I agree with you big d, but the turbo still runs strong. zero shaft play and before the rebuild, it was still pulling strong. Also don't have a whole lot of money kicking around atm, so it'll have to due for now.
I do have an Evo 8 intercooler just kicking around in the garage, just haven't had time to look into piping or a routing for it.

I'm more so just curious as to what/how that got in there....

What could it be from, maby a ghetto adapter to make up the difference for a coupler?

Possibly.... When i bought the car, all the piping looked pretty 'new' and the couplers matched up perfectly.
