I've been looking over IC packages for 1G that fit under the bumper and work with the parts I already have. I know I'm limiting my choices and potential cooling but I'd like to keep the real bumper. And be easier to return to smog acceptible every 2 years for smog test. My turbo is a 20G sized hybrid(SBR GT10). I'll be running only 91 pump gas except tracks days. AC is removed, huge oil cooler, and I'll probably install an upgrade PS cooler. I'm upgrading from a oversize Spearco B&P sidemount approx. 9"x10"x3". I was going to run a top to bottom flow but I'm having doubts.

Any opinions on:

http://www.extremeintercoolers.com/new_page_2.htm Also available with B&P core. He seems willing to do custom work.

and the PTE kit seen on DSMotorsports:

http://www.diamondstarmotorsport.com/fmicparts.shtml

are you talking under the metal bumper or the bumper cover? i have the buschur kit and had to trim the metal bumper in order for it to fit with the intercooler installed.

No trimming of the structural metal bumper.

The ongeen looks just like the first ic link I posted.

I'm leaning away from the top to bottom flow because it requires a lot of bumper trimming, but I get to use my intake and uicp. This is the kit from my local shop.

PTE core maybe too small? but I keep my stuff. Inexpensive.

ExtremeIntercoolers will make it how I want it. But how is the core? Inexpensive.

Does the extremepsi trim the metal bumper? Kind of expensive and I'll need a new intake because of the short route plumbing.

Thanks for the responses,
Scott

I will be getting a FMIC in the next few months and I will be going with the Extreme PSI kit. Alot of people are worried about cutting the front bumper but it isnt that big of a deal. You are not cutting a ton of material if you are using the smaller "street" cores. Its is more of a trim than anything.

I'll be purchasing the DJ/extreme intercooler FMIC street as well. Talked with the guy who makes them via PM thru another board. The thing that inticed me, although its not a huge deal, is there was no cutting needed for the bumper support.

I'll be using it with a TO4B vtrim. In about 2 or 3 months I'll post a little about it when I buy it.

Is that the extreme psi or extremeintercoolers system?

Extremeintercoolers is using the inxpensive johnny racecar core, less than $300. on ebay. As I understand it the flow is 653CFM. The turbo you are getting flows more than that doesn't it? Check out the johnny racecar post and see if it is the same. If so I would say marginal. I use a top to bottom, actually a botom to top made by Spearco, model 2-221 sold by www.roadraceengineering.com. I did not want to cut my bumper either. The Spearco flows 1080CFM @ 1.5psi drop.
The downfall is the short 6" tubes which may not be efficient enough but I emailed a guy from NABR who used one and he ran in the 10's, of course on race. It did enable me to place my air filter in the place of the stock sidemount for a true Cold Air Intake which will help the IC cool. It also allowed me to use my Dejon upper IC pipe which is designed for my GM MAF in a blow thru position. Not cutting the bumper requires some trade off or ingenuity. Mark

we also offer a street core with all piping included and minor trimming of the bumper suport for fitment.. there are pics on another thread here of the core installed on a car..

why dont u just go here http://www.dejontool.com/DSM-BUM.htm they offer a front bumper support that requires no cutting to fit a fmic. i personally have one and i can probably fit the straight line fmic without any cutting of it. plus you cut some weight with this bumper support. the only problem is that it offers no protection.

:dsm: mitsubishi eclipse :talon: eagle talon :laser: plymouth laser :thumb:

Yeah the dejon bumper is just an aluminum shell. I have seen a coupe guys who simply removed the steel bumper rather than hack it. I had to remoove my bumpercover and the bumper to install my small Spearco FMIC. Only 4 bolts hold the sttel bumper to the supports behind it on the car.

I forgot to mention the other reason I'm leaning against top to bottom is I'm lowered to the roll center. And I have a steep driveway that I already scrape if I go too fast. OMG I don't know exactly what the drop is but the roll center is around 14.5" from fender to wheel center. I run about 14.75" now.

I've looked at the RRE Griffin core kit and DSS big tube and fin.

You were able to fit an intake filter down where the stock side was? I'd like to see that.

My friend and I routed his intercooler piping similar to yours.
We had a tough time getting the hot pipe to clear the oil filter housing. I ended up clearancing the frame a tad to make room.

Can you post pics of the hot pipe and how it enters or exits the wheel well?

I may get a nice/big core and run the piping this way, since I've already done it once.
But if you found a better way or a better combinatino of bends to make it fit, I'd like to see it.

i have a 12x24x3 core, with endtanks it's 31" long... and i'm haveing a helluva time fitting it behind my aftermarket front bumper. anyone wanna trade for a slightly smaller one? i'd really like to keep my front steel bumper, even if i have to c-notch it out to fit an intercooler, i'd rather have a 9" tall core instead of the 12". i have a feeling i'm going to lose that steel 5mph bumper to fit this 12" high core... and even then i have that feeling it's going to hang lower than my bumper. bummer

any ideas on mounting this thing? pics of my front bumper are in the gallery

trades for a slightly smaller FMIC are welcome! :thumb:

I just ordered one off net I think it is extreme turbo something or other .It was 448 and hybrid design.I have seen lots and lots of good reports on it .I think the guy makes them in his shop.

I refuse to pay big money just to get virtually the same thing with some piping.I know I can put together a nice setup for hundreds less.

Not sure how to add in the link to the one I got.Not that handy with computers. They had a smaller one that bolts in with no cutting but figure a bit of cutting is no big deal since have access to welder and shops that can help me with this.

I am sure the one I ordered will do the job.Its made specifically for dsm cars.I have read of some bar and plate problems with blocking rad flow and don't like the looks of the top and bottom ones as much as side to side.

Are you getting the Race or street version? I'm curious about the Race version for my project car.

i have one from turbochargers.com its really nice, 500 decent price, i got all the piping from dejontool.

I run that Extreme intercooler. It is the best bang for your buck. I think he advertised it as good for around 450 hp. Pic of it and my Dejon bumper are in my gallery. The quality is good I had no fitment issues at all.

how about diamondstarmotorspor's Budget 1G FMIC kit for those of us that already have the upper ic pipings..? any good...?
