Intake vs Headers

When I had the NT my neighbor really did beat me in a race with a minivan LOL. I couldn't believe it LOL, it was bad.

I can actually see a newer minivan beating a stock 420a Eclipse LOL. If you launch it right though, I think it'll win easily.

No one really answered my question about the turbo though. If I were to turbo it, could a stock 420a handle it? If so, what's the highest PSI turbo that it could safety handle?

Yea on that race I didn't really know we were going to race. Basically the light turned green, and while I was about to shift into 2nd he took off and floored it. So he got a head start, enough for me to start laughing at him. Then I floored it and he was still pulling just a bit on me, LOL oh man I felt like an idiot, all this time I thought my car was badass and the minivan got me. This guy is a hardcore v-8 guy so he loved beating me with the v6. Then I moved away and didn't see him much for some years. Then I saw him again and told him about my gsx, I was thinking he would be interested and happy for me. After I told him it had 400HP he didn't really say much, it was uncomfortable. I think he thought I was lying or something because all he said was "you know that's about the same power of my v-8". I said yea and was laughing having a good time. But he looked pissed and seriously has never talked to me since. Haters gona hate. He worked on a ford truck NA v-8 for a few years and it made about 400hp also. I never hatted on him. I was always over there trying to help him work on stuff.

I need to get out of this thread but the majority of people will say 8psi max and if the engine is older then less.
If you turbo it (and I don't think you should) then don't expect the stock bottom end to last forever. I never like to tell someone that loves there gs or rs to get a gst or gsx, but that's what I think you should do if you want turbo. I almost turboed my old 97gs and looking back now that I have my gsx I am so glad that I didn't waste my money on the gs. Just my .02 bro.

I think you need to scroll to the top of the page, then go to the 4th pull down menu, the one highlighted in yellow. I think that right there is enough spoon feeding for you.

IMO the 420a is one of the more complicated platforms to turbo. There is a lot of information out there to make it easier and there is a large support group if you have a specific question but if you have to ask how to do it you probably shouldn't. Now I don't think its a horrible idea to turbo a 420a, after all I have one in the works right now but it's not for the unexperienced. The biggest benefit to doing a CAI or header on this car is building car knowledge and experience. My advice, crawl before you run, start off slow.

Alright since we are talking exhaust / headers / intake

Lemme ask a random question.

Does having a bigger exhaust really make a big difference?

is a small exhaust the same as a big exhaust?

Also does a big exhaust/small make a difference with a intake?

Also what is the true purpose of the headers? :p

if your exhaust is to big you wont have much back pressure which equals less power. to small of an exhaust is oppisite of that. think of the motor as a big vacuum, the more air you allow it to suck and push out the better, then after that you make up for it with mods to get more power. such as a turbo or heavy internal mods. an aftermarket header has less restriction then the stock one so it allows more air flow to go out but for an n/a its not a huge gain if thats all you have.

i have a eagle talon with a 420a and put all my money into my suspension and sound system for a good ride
