Just when I thought I'd seen it all a DSM surprises me. I was degreasing this nasty 2g rubber snorkel. I pulled the spacer out as I have on dozens of cars. As I cleaned the inside of the intake something cut me. I thought it was some sort of metal reinforcement I was not aware of so I went to get needle nose to investigate. As I picked at it apparently its some sort of glue that hardened and it was sharp. I was able to remove it all and just leave rubber behind. On top of that the spacer had a chunk cut out and glued over on itself. Here is a pic.
Never seen adhesive or a spacer messed up like this.

That missing chunk reminds me of the one time I didn't get the spacer on properly and the turbo ate it. I used a home depot rubber coupling as a replacement once I sourced a new turbo.
Maybe something similar happened to a previous owner so glue was their fix?

Exactly why I was asking. Sometimes it hard to get that on when it's inside the tube and the edge rolls over and brakes cause it hardened from the heat. I had to put mine on the turbo first and then put the intake tube over it or it was a PITA.

Interesting. This broken one was fully pliable. One of the more unusual failures I've seen over the years.
