Installed HKS 272's now have idle surge

so i installed some hks 272's while i replaced the water pump on my 99 gst since i have to take the timing belt off to get to the water pump. it drives pretty normal but when idling it surges from a little under a grand to about 1500 rpm and keeps doing it until i start driving again. i ran a code scan on my car and it came up with P0300 which is random/multiple misfire. is it possible that the cam sensor is installed backwards? and also i noticed my vac is at about 15ish now at idle when it always use to be 20 at idle on the stock cams. is this normal or do i have a vacuum leak somewhere? any help would be great ### im at a lose for ideas right now. would timing affect this? i know for a fact i timed it right ive done it 4 times already on the 4g63 and never had a problem but i just dont know what else it could be...

You had to pull the CAS off of the stocker cam and install it on the new HKS 272's so YES its definitely possibly you installed it upside down. With the cam dowels at TDC your CAS should look like the picture below or its 180* out. Check your base timing using a timing light just to be 100% sure its at 5*...

The vacuum being at 15 in/Hg after a cam install is completely normal, I think I'm right at 15 in/Hg at idle as well on my FP2 cams.

alright i'll definitely have to check that out. would i throw a check engine light if that was on backwards? would it even run with it 180 to the correct way?

ok so now which way is right???

does any one else have any information on how the sensor goes on because now 2 people have said it two different ways but the one that says to match up the paint mark makes more sense to me...

also when you say cam dowels at TDC what does that mean? is that the same as putting cylinder one at TDC?
