Hey everyone the dust boot is shot and gone on my outer tie rod, but it's pretty much rusted to my inner tie rod so I'm thinking it would just be easier to replace both. My question is, is it possible to replace both of them without pulling out the steering rack? I found one write up saying to pull it, but if I can keep it in the car I'd prefer to.

You should be able to get it out but its gonna be tight, Honestly you are better off just pulling the rack. A set of jack stands and a few hours of cussing and you'll be in there like a thong on a fat chic.

I need to replace my inner and outers on both sides. I never did inners just outers I also never pulled the rack which I would prefer not to. How did it go for you? I also know you count the turns on an outer seems less relevant here any help would be appreciated. I am going to get an alignment when I am done I am also putting new brakes and rotors on.

I was hoping since the rotors will be off It would be easy I guess I will be looking it up in case I have to go that route.

Even with the rotors on it was real easy other then the bellow on the one inner that I had to tear. It is now getting an alignment.

Rent the inner tie rod tool from advanced auto. Make sure you order new rack and pinion bellows (boots). And make a small snip on inside lip. That way you can stretch it and throw a zip tie on there. I also find it helpful to put a little grease in the outer part of the boot, because you'll be tweaking those rods until you're alignment's right. You'll also need a pickle fork (tie rod separator) to pop the outer tie rod loose. I've had to do these on all my dsms and it's quite simple. You're alignment will definitely be off, but I've managed to get it close enough.

Also you don't need a pickle fork a pry bar and hammer will suffice. Find a safe area to put tension downward on the outer tie rod with the nut loose,do not hit the top of the tie rod but strike the steering knuckle. the vibration and tension will break the interference fit and save your boot helpful if your not replacing your outer tie rods. Also if your inner tie rods don't have locking mechanism I would suggest blue loctite.
