Did a compression test today, which a friend recently refered to as an AIDS test for cars, you know you have to check but you almost don't want to know the results.
Anyway, my car has AIDS.

Dry: 135-100-100-125

Wet: 135-120-130-140

Guess it's time to dig into this motor again. Any car specific tips or tricks for re-ringing a DSM?
Thanks in advance
Aloha

It really isn't any different than any other car.

The keys to a well seated ring fall under Sizing, break in, and proper honing/boring/piston sizing. if you screw any of those up, you'll never have rings that hold pressure worth a damn.

Thanks.
So on to the debate... Provided the cylinders spec out, hone or do not hone. I have recently read some interesting articles in this forum that make good points while advocating the "no hone" approach. Is this more of a personal choice or is there real information to back up either claim?
Personally, I have always honed the cylinders of cars I have re-ringed in the past; however, just because you have always done something a certain way doesn't mean it's right or the best way.
Just looking for some solid info.

... I can't even begin to imagine why someone would suggest not honing the cylinder walls. Please if you could locate that and post it here. From my experience and conversations with machinists, it is just a much a part of the "re-ring" process as putting new rings on the pistons.

I'm actually just gonna retract the question.
In searching for the article I was talking about I stumbled across the magic combination of keywords that produced the answers I was originally looking for. Thanks for the heads up.
