I'm doing a 6 Bolt Block 7 Bolt Head build and...

I've ran into a snag. What headgasket should I use?

Should I use the 6 bolt hg, or the 7 bolt, I've searched thru google for hours on this and I just can't seem to get a answer. It's all stuff about the sensors that need replaced. I know about that. I just need to know (preferably from someone with direct knowledge of the swap) what headgasket to use.

They use the same gasket, so that should answer that.

Okay, just curious, also has anyone got any experience with the cometic gasket sets? I'm not trying to cheap out but I don't want the hg that comes with the OEM Gasket set.

If under 500 HP and 30 psi.... Get a fel-pro Head gasket

Also did you enlarge the head bolt holes in the 2g head?

Yes, and yes, I have the felpro, I'm talking the actual engine gaskets, like the oil pump mains so on so forth. Kinda like the Cometic kit on MAP. I'm wondering if I should use it, or a OEM Gasket kit.

I know Auto-zone sells a fel-pro conversion gasket set. Its pretty much just the bottom end gasket set.

I ran this fel-pro gasket set, but for a 6 bolt. I had no problems or leaks at all. I cleaned up the mating surfaces real good, and used black rtv to help seal it. They sell the same gasket set at extremepsi (a supporting vendor here) for 79.00!! It's your choice on what you would like to use, I'm just sharing My experience with using these gaskets. Extremepsi also sells the oem gaskets too.

Why wouldn't you use a gasket for the oil pan?

Because the pan is not designed to be used with a gasket. IT is designed to be sealed with rtv, look in the factory service maual. Pans that are designed for a gasket will have a raised area to dig into the gasket to hold the gasket in place. Pans that are designed to to be sealed with rtv have an indention to hold the rtv in place. Gaskets are way too easy to squish out on these pans, and way more likely to be blown out with higher crank case pressures than rtv.
