A friend accidentally connected the ignition timing adjustment connector to (+)/battery/12V, instead of shorting it to ground/earth...

Car starts but has bad/rough idle...he hasn't run the car afte this 'accident' for fear of making things worse...

Any advice on what to check and possibly repair? ECU? Caps? Harness, etc...

Thanks for any advice...

RESOLVED:

putting 12V to the ignition timing connector did not damage the ECU.

apparently, after checking continuity to the fuel pump from the fuel pump relay, this friend tried to play with the fuel pump relay, causing loose contact at the spade connector on coil side of the relay... :nono:

thanks the advice russell3123...:thumb:

First check to see if he melted any wires on the ecu harness then check the ecu.. The timing adjust connector goes directly to the ecu to stop the ecu from adjusting timing.
