well for starters im pretty new to the site, and couldnt find anything on my problem, but anyways i recently picked up a 98 gsx, its got a polished intake and BOV, but thats it, drove it for a couple weeks and now it starts missing under load, ill get on the gas pretty good at low rpms and it just falls on its face. i had a similar problem with my old gs, ended up switching out a new ignition coil and it ran perfectly, so my first guess was the coil packs, i tested the primary and secondary resistances, secondary came back fine, but my primary's coming up with 0's. im testing the resistances as shown in the haynes book,

so i guess my question is how good of a chance would a new coil fix the problem, i dont feel like dropping $100 bucks for it to still miss and my original coil to be fine, and what else could it be?

Thanks, Dylan

I had the issue on my car a few months back, after changing and inspecting all sorts turned out to be my spark plugs. Before you get to into the problem, start with the easy stuff. Good Luck man.

alright yeah i plan on pulling the plugs, and testing the wires tomorrow if i can. hopefully its something small, but thanks ill letcha know.

If the car is new to you, I'd start just by getting new plugs and new quality plug wires. Then you don't have to worry about them in the near future and you know when they have been changed. If this doesn't work, I'd change the coil.

Also you can still test the old wires and keep those which seem to be in good shape. Then if you or some fellow DSMer nearby runs into same problems later, you have a spare set of wires that you can swap one by one and see if it fixes the issue. I just changed new NGK wires to my '95 GS though there was nothing wrong with current ones. I just had no idea when they had been changed so I went the surefire way. Our engines are known to have issues with tps/iscm etc so at least you have two things less to consider when troubleshooting.

thanks for the input guys, last night when i got off work i poped the plug wires off to find that on the first plug, the plug wire had worn out and wasnt even attacked the clips that attach to the plug itself, so when i pulled the rubber boot out, the metal clip was still attached, and the base wire was still there, it was basically split in 2, so i re wired it using what i had, and hasnt missed a fire yet, and when i get paid on friday, its getting new plugs and wires. :D

iv got a 95 tsi fwd and while i am driving the rpm gauge flutters around between 1 and 3 grand. and it loses power and barely gets out of its own way. so far i have tracked it down to misfires on cylinders 1 and 4 i changed the coil pack, still does it, then i changed the wires still does it. its not the plugs because i even checked for spark with a screw driver and nothing..... this car has a mind of its own and acts up every once in a while. please help or im gonna burn it to the ground
