Ok, i have been working on my car since october 1st. Yesterday i went and bought a new battery, new plugs, and grounded my starter. The starter being what we thought the problem was. It still doesnt start. When you turn the key, you can hear the fuel injectors and a click. So we push started it, the plugs helped a little, but when you get over 25 rpms it backfires like crazy. We found a gap in the downpipe, but taht would only help the loudness, so we fixed that, and also found that my motor mount was really loose, but that would only help the shaking. so we are fixing that. I still dont know why it wont start, (maybe bad ignition system) and why it backfires so bad.

i would check the Cam positon sensor, the coil pack, and the transistor for now. If that fails i would check the crank angle sensor or the ECU, before you go on tho, check your main engine fuse in the fuse box under the hood and see that fuse is bad in any way and replace it...good luck

Might also want to check your timing, that could be a reason for it not starting once you give it a shove.

Thanks. I have checked the fuses and am about to check the ecu. I think it is the timing also, or the ecu. and my timing belt is also spitting oil. or something is spitting oil onto my timing belt.

Engine timing and Ignition timing sounds like your problem. Check over something as simple as your firing order. Check the position of the cam angle sensor. Coil, module, harnesses in correctly. As far as engine timing. There is a quick, easy, pretty accurate way to see if this is on. Take out the spark plug in the 1st or 4th cylinder. Insert a long screwdriver or any kind of "rod" until you feel it touch the top of the piston. Use a 1/2 in drive ratchet w/ extension. Rotate your crank pulley CLOCKWISE while watching the screwdriver rise and lower. When your crank pulley shows TDC on your timing cover, your screwdriver should be at it's peak. And your cam gear marks should line up correctly. Dowel pins on the gears should be both @ 12o'clock.
