Alright so I get up to leave for work this morning, get in the car it starts right up like usual, cars been problem free for a good while now. Shut the car off and got out abput 10 mins later got back in tried starting it up, nothing. Dash lights came on like normal and then when I turn the key to try and start it, it goes dead. Also the terminals themselves are like corrosion all over them and slimy stuff coming around and over them. Im thinking my battery is f'd but just double checking before I go spend money in my build savings on a new batt.

Check the terminals with a voltmeter, should be 12v powered off and 14 if you get it running. Clean the corrosion off and tighten/check your grounds. If you still have issue, take it to Autozone and have them test the battery with their machine.

If the battery voltage comes in good, check the starter. There is a black terminal on it that goes to the solenoid. Mine was broken and would sometimes loose connection.

That built up corrosion on the terminals can cause alot of problems. It causes a barrier around the terminal so you don't get a good connection just like a loose battery terminal. If your battery is on its way out and you get another you need to buy some of those red/black "battery washers" that help prevent corrosion.

Dude. Why did you let it get that bad? Is it the weather up there? I've never seen one that bad ever.

That's over the course of a week man! So i'm hoping that advanced auto will have a terminal to fit onto the negative side since mine broke off and a good battery that won't shit the bed again.

+1

My car was getting no power at all, and all i did was get a terminal cleaner and it fixed it immediately.

I swear that is the same brand of battery that blew up on me when I bought my GSX. The positive and negative connected ON THE INSIDE of the battery and it exploded and acid went everywhere. My mechanic said he has only seen that 2 or 3 times.

I will not be using that brand again LOL.

Having messed up and corroded terminals also doesn't let the alternator charge the battery properly. Cut those terminals off, get some new ones. When you strip the wire casing back, check the wire itself for corrosion also. Go ahead and get you a new battery but make sure you've got the new terminal ends on and tight before you put them on the battery.

well the ground wire was shot itself and the bolt was just corroded on and wouldn't budge so going tomorrow to see what they have for wire i can use and also picking up 2 new terminals.

In reality all different brands of batteries are the exact same battery.. I work in a battery warehouse and its funny how we use the same black box for about 4 different batterys. Also the trucks that drop our batteries off also drive down the street and drop batteries off at interstate and all the other major battery manufacturers. It amazed me how many "different batteries" are actually the exact same when I started!

Not saying the cheap ones are the same as the expensive ones by any means but pretty much all the different brands are going to be the exact same just a different label on them :D The cheap ones allways weep(leak) a bit of acid though!

yeah I it was nasty this morning when I got back to the garage and was caked with acid, picking up a new one her this week. In other means though new wires and terminals and she fired right up, glad it was nothing serious.
