ok , here is my problem. I own a 1993 eclipse gs n/t 5 speed. when it is just idling, it is fine, but when i actually start driving, the car act like it is loosing power throughout the entire rpm range. by that i mean:

1. in any gear, once i get past 2000 rpm, the idle surges while driving.
2. when i am in neutral, and i begin to rev the motor to about 3000 rpm, the rpms stay steady for a second, then they drop down to idle (about 800 rpm) then slowly crep back up to 3000, then drop again.

It used to have a really bad idle surge, and i did some research, and just random tinkering, and for som reason, when my MAS/MAF sensor is disconnected it shuts the car off completly.
The only aftermarket part thats that i have on my car are a AEM intake with the stock airfilter and mas/maf unit on the end of it with the filter housing (the big black can) removed, and a muffler.

Could my mas/maf be the problem? any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont have anything to offer anyone but my loyalty to them.

please. this is my only car right now and i need it for work.

please contact me on here, or on my email, [email protected] or if you think it will help, please call me and i can give you more info about what is going on with it.

my phone # is 304.824.2788 and my name is anthony.

Please. i live with my grandmother in west virgina right now so i am on EST (eastern standard time) so please take that into concideration if you decide to call.

Thank you.

Anthony

Check your throttle linkage. Check to see if the butterfly plate in the throttle body is not shutting all the (which could be your problem). To do this start the car and let it idle, put it in neutral and slowly rev the engine to 3k and let off, if the RPM's stay there or slowly fall to 2k and slowly rise, open the hood and manually try shutting the TB's plate with your hand on the outside of the TB, if the plate moves and the RPM's drop when you shut it then your lines have to much tension and the plate can not close by its self.

There are a veriaty of problems you could be dealing with. I asume when you say it surges at 2k rpm you mean it drops and comes back from what you have said. To me it sounds like a fuel cut problem though there is a posibility that it could be and ignition issue. I have seen the same thing with carburated vehicles when you floor it the engine drops it to idle and picks up and goes. This is usually atributed to too much fuel being delivered into the engine at once or not enough and therefor to much air (If this is like your problem you are having). I would get a in-line spark tester and see what is going on with your ignition when it does this. Use your hand to actuated the thottle and watch the spark tester. You are looking for consistancy if it sound like the car is missing at the same time there is no light it is probably an ignition problem (check gap). Next check for vacume with a vacume guage (it will tell you how to use it in a chiltons). Next check your electrical sensors as it tells you in your chilltons manuall and I am betting you will figure it out. You can get much more in depth but try this for now and see what happens. A spark tester is $10 and a vacume guage is $30. In order to fix this on your own you need to figure out what is working and use the process of deduction and use your resources. Let us know

i have realizd that it only does this when the car is finally up to operation temp. when i fist start when it is cold it runs fine. but once it gets to operating temerature (normally after 10-20 min. of driving) it stars to do it.

ok ...i got it to run fine, now i have a major issue.

I have a 1g 93 mitsu eclipse gs 5 speed w/ 4g63 N/T motor.

i have a bad relay now. i have no idea what it does, or what exactly it controls.
it started clicking really bad so i pulled my center console apart by the dash.

i found out where the clicking was coming from.

it is a relay that is stamped with the mitsu logo with the letters and numbers

E8T07071
:dsm:
2904

just like that. it also has what looks to be a double pin instert with 5 pins on the one with the clip and 4 pins on the one with out the clip.

the car was running really rough and everytim the relay clicked the tach needle would drop, so i am thinking it controls the idle somehow.

please any help would be greatly appreciated....
