Alright i have been having surge for a while. the car wasn't driven for a few months and am now starting to drive it again. now the surge at initial start up is pretty bad, the searching is quick up and down. once it warms it gets slower but still does it when driving, when coming to a redlight (after warm) it may search a time or two. Replaced the IAC with a brand new one, checked the idle screw o-ring and the throttle body! what are some common spots or other things i can check!

Have you checked the caps on your ecu for leakage? I don't think there is a 1st gen that hasn't had cap leakage unless they were changed first. Check this out and take off the back case of your ecu while you check for leakage.

89-94 Capacitor Replacement

Not saying that this is causing your problem, but since the ecu controls the IAC coils it's very possible.

Research the FIAV block off or at least how it functions. To my knowledge just about EVERY DSM known to man has this issue. 2gs 1gs name it.

Some common things you can do to help the issue. Clean the throttle body. Remove it and clean all the carbon build up on the butterfly. Replace throttle body shaft seals. Also some people have noted that block portions of the Fast Idle Air Valve have cured or lessened idle surge. I believe there are several How To's in the tech section. When my 2g begins to surge I usually kick on the A/C and let the ISC catch up. With the extra load on the motor usually it calms itself
