I have a 95 eagle talon, automatic, non-turbo with about 122,000 miles. After its driven or the engine just runs at idle even for about 20 minutes or so, the engine will just start to rev on its own, i guess this is called idle surging. It will rev between maybe 1000-2000 rpm, sometimes even up to 3000 rpm, and the check engine light will come on. If i come to a stop sign or something when this happens, the car won't want to stop because the rpms are a little above 1000, and then i put it in neutral or park and the rpms go crazy, up and down. i can not seem to figure out what the problem is, i had a diagnostic check done at autozone and it indicated my ignition coil was bad so i replaced it, i sprayed carburetor cleaner in the throttle body, i put new spark plugs in it, and it still does it. do i need a new throttle position sensor (TPS) possibly? any help or advice that anyone has would be greatly appreciated. thanks

It is you IAC motor. You have a few options when they crap on you.

Buy a new one from the dealer. I think they are about 250.00 or so,

Get one used from the trader or the classifieds and hope that it works,

go to www.crebotech.com and get one that is rebuilt for 80.00,

or last you could modify the TB so that it doesnt need one but then you have to set your idle to compensate for when you turn on the AC.

There's actually a number of things it could be, or even a combination of things. The ISC is one of them. A search for 'idle surge' should provide you with a nice list.
