My 90 laser rs turbo just got this nasty idle surge today out of nowhere. I'm pretty sure I have a boost leak because my car doesn't boost past 12 psi and it boggs down but i've had that problem since I got the car and it hasn't had an idle surge. The only other thing I noticed was that my turbo gauge used to idle a little above the first notch and now it's way below...like the needle is at the bottom on idle. Sounds like a vacuum line just come off...does that sound right? I mean...the vacuum is acting crazy along with the surge. Thanks guys

I do a boost leak check and check your vacume lines. If that is not the problem also check your blow off valve for leaks. Spray soapy water on your throttle body and check for leaks. If thats not it it could be your air idle control valve.

I've got a 91 GSX that is surging pretty bad, and has for some time now. I finally replaced the ISC to see if that was the problem, and that did not fix it. I will try checking vaccuum lines, and the TB for leaks. Outside of that, what else causes this. It's really frustrating to have it do this until the car gets warm.

Okay, so I sprayed basically the whole darn engine with soapy water, and was unable to find any leaks. The surge only happens until my car warms up, which is wierd, because it idles fine once warm. I'm running back out right now to put my old ISC back on, since I replaced it and it didn't fix the problem.

i am having same problem. i have idle problems untill the car gets warm then it kinda goes away.... check vacuum leaks and bisss. i have to check me isc and faiv still ill ###### just get a shop to check that.

Mines just the oposite? Mine will idle fine until it warms up and then surge from about 900 to 650. It's done this ever since I installed the 2g maf.

You also want to check your TPS. That has been my source of surge before, adjusted it and it cleared it right up.
This would be my guess, I had a nasty idle surge for awhile, and my check engine light was on. I bought a TPS from a member and it went away. Nothing like a nice smooth idle.
