I may be playing the fool, but what is the mechanism that keeps/alows you to build boost during idle revving ?

I noticed a guy with the same bov as me and he can free rev and get full discharge from his bov sitting still with very little Rpm, while I have to redline to get even a faint whistle, both using HKS SSQ real*

Now, my bov works fine under load, and im curious if something is amiss, perhaps relating to, or related to my slow spool issue in my other thread

And by my 1st prargraph I don"t mean the stutter box thing which I also do not understand, I mean what are the mechanics in my motor that prevent/alow this action?

Thank you for your advice, ideas, information :dsm:

how old is your hks bov? is it adjustable? also do you have anything T'd off of the bov?

There are many factors that could contribute to this, but every car is different, and i really think there's something wrong with the way yer balance shafts are setup. which ive replied to in your other thread. And on every car i've worked on that had problems with slow spool / lack of power and a bov that would very rarely produce any release. was from balance shafts out of phase. please give me some more insight on how you have the BS removed, but still there? in this thread or the other.

The only way you can build boost in neutral (without anitlag etc.) is if you have a small turbo. Your 50 trim requires alot more load on the motor than just free revving to build boost.

HKS SSQ brand new updated non adjustable model.
yes the boost control is T'd off the bov line cause I havent got around to tapping the turbo :notgood:

Balance shafts have nothing to do with anything except controling vibration to make idle smoother, see my other post :thumb:

Thanks for the ideas :)

CanadianTSi, I understand that my turbo is large requiring more this and that, my question is if anyone can explain why/how this is?

What is keeping my turbo from spooling in nuetral ? even my T-25 wouldnt realy blow off free reving, I think something else is at play here ive seen some Srt-4's that can free rev blow off with big turbo's simular to mine

If its simply a product of my large 3" everything I guess I can live with it, just wish it sounded like it had some balls when I rev some dumb kid in a honda ROFL

Thanks again guys :dsm:

First off it's not your balance shafts causing this problem, so whoever posted that please don't post stuff you know nothing about. The 50trim wheel is bigger thus it requires more spool time to create boost. You aren't creating enough heat/exhaust pressure when you are free-reving to get it going. Want to hear it blow off in neutral? Get a studderbox or antilag.

I don't have a lot of experience with BOVs, but I can tell you that the greddy I bought will blow off while you're still in vac.. I suppose it's the boost source on the bottom of the valve that makes it do this..

I'll never buy a greddy bov again though.. that same boost source makes the thing into a huge boost leak.. POS.. single spring mod it I suppose, then I hear it's all compressor surge.. I'm just gonna buy a real bov.. I'll play with it a bit once I've broken in my clutch.. right now it doesn't really matter cause I'm not boosting..

But if you want a crappy bov that makes noise before you even start making boost get the greddy S.

Thank you,

This helps me understand the situation better.

Although i'm still boggled how a 2.4 liter Srt-4 with a simular size turbo can get an exact oppoosite response from the bov, with smaller 2.5 piping also, is the .4 displacement and 1/2" smaller intercooler piping making that much of a difference ?

If I am :beatentodeath: please says so, I just like to understand as I do all my own work :dsm:
