i just bought a 91 awd dsm, on the xhaust manifold some one welded a square flange with 4 bolts on the top the manifold, im assuming its for a blow off valve but who makes a 4 bolt valve?they have it covered with a plate, but leaks like there is no tomorrow, any help with this would be greatly appreciated, i have pics if needed, thanks, mike

the only kind of valve that you will find on your exhaust manifold is for an external wastegate. The actual compressor bypass valve or BOV is on your upper intercooler pipe. The guy who sold you the car must have had an external gate and put a plate on it when he sold the car. If you can find a gasket to fit it, that will solve your leaking problem.

what you have is a 4 bolt flange for an external wastegate. Just find a gasket that matches that pattern then it should stop leaking

read this http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm

Most automotive turbochargers have a wastegate, which allows the use of a smaller turbocharger to reduce lag while preventing it from spinning too quickly at high engine speeds. The wastegate is a valve that allows the exhaust to bypass the turbine blades. The wastegate senses the boost pressure. If the pressure gets too high, it could be an indicator that the turbine is spinning too quickly, so the wastegate bypasses some of the exhaust around the turbine blades, allowing the blades to slow down.

i should have stated im going to put a blow off valve on the system all the one siive looked at are 2 bolt, does anyone know where i can get the 4 bolt waste gate? part number any help would be great, i dont want to block it off,i want it to have what was there before, thanks guys, mike

You don't need an external wastegate because he probably put the stock turbo back and it's internally gated. You also don't need a bov because you already have one. :) Word of advice, search and read as much as you can for the next three month if you like your car. :thumb:

or if your not planning on upgrading your turbo or to an external WG dump, then have a good welder just weld it shut for you. and leave your stock Blow off valve, you dont need a new one
