my engine light went on and i did and i got a

p0505 error for the isc .....

a few days later i pulled the reader again and it gave me 2 errors now .

the isc error and a error for misfire in cylinder one .

i bought a new spark plug for the cylinder and was playing with the idle screw a bit , i do get idle surges but there not that bad .

right now im idleing at 1200 in park , and if i hit the gas the gage slams and bounces back 3 or 4 times in about 2 secs of doing that .

i hear some poping when i rev it in park , also since i replaced the one spark plug .

so my questions are :
what should i be idleing @ in a 98 gsx ? pretty much stock

am i about to blow up my car?

and what steps should i take next....

i know im probably doing something very dumb , but i gotta start somewhere.

Stock idle is 750. As for the misfire check the gap on all the plugs (should be around .028) and make sure the plug wires aren't arcing. To diagnose the ISC check out THIS LINK . The ISC could be the cause of your problems too. Refer to VFAQ.com for more info. Good luck

okay thanks , a few more questions just so i get it straight.

what is a ground plug?

what do i do now ?

just turn the screw till i idle @ 750 then do the runthrough to check the iac?

is there anything i would have to do with the ecu since i dint use a ground plug?

ive read that theres a "rarer" kind of ecu , if i have a 98 GSX do i probably have this kind of ecu for things like dsmlink?

Sorry, wrong info on the grounding plug. That was only 1gs. So disregard that, but yes check the ISC as that will affect your ability to adjust your base idle. The rare ECU is the "eprom," and 1995 was the only year the 2g that came with them. THIS LINK should help as well.
