Multiple cylinder misfire, rough idle

I need a little help here. I've dropped a lot of my time and money in shop time trying to find a problem with a tsi awd I just bought. The person before me did a top end overhaul due to a blown head gasket. The car was giving me a PO300 code until I replace the ECU then the code only came in one more time. When the car warms up in park the idle surges up and down at a really low idle and in drive or any other gear, tries to stall from it's 400 rpm idle. At speed, I have no problems with the car but there is a delay on take off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'm at my wits end.
