hey all, i have a 1g laser that has a TRE trans in it , ive been launching it alot and i think the t-case finally gave up (bearing type noise and vibrations) the problem is i got the car with the trans already in it and im unsure which trans/t-case i have. the build list for the trans isnt specific on what transmission they used, ive been told it may be a GVR4 trans but im unsure and could use some help figuring out what t-case i have also, is the only way to identify it pulling it and counting the splines?

You can go by the vin# on the transmission, or the numbers after the W5M33- to find out what it was, but there's really no telling what was put in there if it's been redone. Being a 93, it came with the 23 spline rear output shaft, so I doubt you would have downgraded to the early 22 spline setup.

The 89-90 DSM trans could have been built with a 23 spline output shaft, and either variation could have been swapped to VR-4 gears or early EVO gears. They made slight changes to the 1g transmissions every year as well, so you really need to open it up before you order new syncros, for instance.

As for the transfer case, if the front section of the case is steel/iron, then it's a 23 spline, if it's all aluminum, then it's a 22 spline.

awesome thanks for the info, trans seems fine was just curious, but t-case should def be replaced, will a 2g t-case work or is there a difference there?

If yours is all aluminum then you can use 91-96 t cases. 97-99 are specific to there trans.
