I havnet made any mods to my 1995 Talon TSI. One of the first things i would like to do is to get a full exhaust system. Please help me out on this if you can. I do not want to spend a ton of money. I also do not want just a cat-back. I want the full thing. Here are the 2 things i think (if im right) is need for a full exhaust:

http://www.importboost.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=1089 That is the downpipe

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33630&item=7938463517&rd=1 That is the Cat-back

I talked to someone and found out that that downpipe that i listed eliminates the catconverter. Would those be the only 2 pieces i need for a full exhaust system?

i would suggest getting rid of the stock air box and getting an open cloth filter. The hard intake pipe is not needed unless you change to a turbo with a larger inlet size. Unless.. you just want it to look good with a chrome hard intake which you can do that too.

So, yes get an aftermarket filter to replace the stock airbox. You can see many types in the catalog of this site up top just click on air filters and it will give you a big list of them.

Also for that downpipe id need to order the internal dump right?

depends on what you want internal dump is where it routes back into the downpipe the external dump is the dump tube.

an intake is good, a hardpipe flows better than the stocker and sounds a lot cooler. id say get a manual boost controller and a boost gauge before doing anything else though, they are the best 1st mods you can do other than basic maintnence

you know most of this info is in the tuning guide and gives you a good idea the steps you want to do to make your car faster right on the top of the page. plus my figers are getting tired. LOL

Alright good stuff now about boost controllers. I know that i am going to have to buy a boost guage which is fine but then i am going to buy this:

http://www.importboost.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=1237

Which is a dual stage boost controller. Now i know that me and you both have a 1995 talon. What is the stock PSI set for my talon. And what should i raise it to without putting any harm on my engine?

Hey David do u have AIM or ICQ because i have both and I wouldnt mind being able to chat with you bout some stuff sometime if thats alright with u? Dont worry i wont be a pest and annoy you LOL.

you can get a manual boost controller that does the exact same thing for a fourth of the price of that electronic one.. electronic controllers are a waste of money unless you really need the extra traction that low inital boost gives in your fwd. stock boost is about 10 or 11, 15 is the most you want to run on a t25.. anything higher will blow it quick. my t25 had 32k miles when it went, 18 psi killed it after about 3 weeks. a friend of mines lasted a few months at that boost. its a gamble running anything more than 15 on them

heh my AIM name is DaveDSMer if you need to contact me I will answer any question I can. Though I wont be on till I get home from work heh. Yep im working hard. :thumb:

That dual stage boost controller will allow me to change from liek 9 psi stock to 15 psi with the flick of a switch from inside my car.

same here, my aim is saw wave analog.. im me whenever if you want to ask a question, but i too am at work now.. getting paid to talk about dsms=glory :shhh:

Well i was at the drag track before winter came in about september and my car was fully stock not 1 mod made to it. Its a 1995 and its automatic. I ran a 16.0 flat in teh 1/4 mile. Does that sound normal because i thought it sounded kind of slow.

why would you ever want to limit it to 9psi though? 9psi blows, and you only hit max boost when you are getting on it pretty good anyway. the advantage of dual stage is all in the launch if you are having problems hooking up, but still they are a waste imo.. especially when you are just starting out, that money could be applied to something that will give a real performance gain

well totally stock on an automatic and first time at the track with that car.. yeah that sounds right. If you want to dual stage go for it you may need it later on cause you are FWD when you start putting down some good power and want to use it for traction issues. If you were AWD than there is no point in a dual stage.

Well i would have it set at 9 psi for regular driving. THen whenver i raced i could flip the switch to 15 psi so then i could be running faster. It makes sense.

dual stage is usually reserves for serious track guys. heh. us normal street guys would never use it. my boost is set to 15psi but i hardly ever hit that much unless im going all out. Normally ill only hit about 5 psi driving around town if that.

thats a bit slow, you could have probably gotten a high 15 out of it. our autos are dogs until somewhat modded. i am auto and with a t28 ported at 18 psi, ported exhaust manifold, ported o2 housing, full 3" exhaust with no cat, hard uicp, type s bov and an injen intake my best time was still a 14.4. a torque converter and dsmlink would have dropped more than a second from that time.. we start with a disadvantage being auto, but once all the basic mods are done we gain advantage. you are never going to be fast unless you upgrade your torque converter since the stock stall is around 2800rpm and that is not high enough for a good launch. my best 60" is still a 2.1, which is wretched in an awd with my mods, id have been mid/high 13's with 1.8 60's if i were 5 speed

even if you set a boost controller to 25 psi you would never hit that high unless you had it floored and were racing so thats why we say that going from stock boost to higher boost for when you want to race is not practical. The psi isnt giving you the power unless your car is actually hitting that high. Just because I set my controller to 20 psi doesnt mean ill go any faster than it set to 10 psi unless I let the boost build up past 10psi.

yeah the 5 speed does have an advantage over an unmodded auto tranny but that can be remidied heh. Just to give you a compare you saw all the mods on his auto and the time he posted? I ran a 14.9 off only a filter and bigger intercooler pipe.. still on stock boost.. mainly because with a 5 speed it gives an advantage. Though.. later on the auto can get to be real mean with the right stuff on it.

Alright well lets say that you guys had my car rightnow and the best u coudl run is a 16. What mods would u start to do first to get that better?

new sparkplugs, cut the bov return tube from your intake pipe (free), hard upper intercooler piping, aftermarket or 1g blowoff valve, boost controller, free flowing air filter, catback, downpipe, ported o2 housing, better turbo, better injectors a fuel pump and dsmlink or an safc

in that order

not the tube running from your bov to the intake pipe! that would be bad

pull out your intake pipe and look inside it, there is a huge restrictive tube in there coming off of the bov inlet, its purpose is to cut down the noise the bov makes.. pointless, and a major intake restriction. cut it down so its not blocking the flow of air

more airflow=more power
