I want to buy exhaust system?

I havnet made any mods to my 1995 Talon TSI. One of the first things i would like to do is to get a full exhaust system. Please help me out on this if you can. I do not want to spend a ton of money. I also do not want just a cat-back. I want the full thing. Here are the 2 things i think (if im right) is need for a full exhaust:

I talked to someone and found out that that downpipe that i listed eliminates the catconverter. Would those be the only 2 pieces i need for a full exhaust system?

the 02 housing is a housing for your 02 sensor.

its between the turbo and downpipe

2 options in your case. 1. Buy an aftermarket tubular 02 housing. 2. Port your current 02 housing out.

What is an O2 housing?

The O2 housing is the cast 90 degree elbow connecting the turbine side of the turbocharger to the downpipe. As the name states, this is where the O2 sensor is located.

like i just said .. either buy an aftermarket tubular housing or port your current one out. up to you as to what you want to do. Porting is the cheapest way.. though an aftermarket housing would flow better and would have the option to use a dump tube or recirculate back into the downpipe.

Alright im not a mechanical genius or anything like that . So please use terms that u are pretty understandable. Now if you had a completely stock car. And you wanted to start increasing the performance. What would you do first. ANd explain it in detail please. I am definately thinking of getting a full exhaust but i do not know what is needed. Sorry for the agrevation but im picking up on what ur saying.

Ok you want to do the whole exhaust sytem thats great. Its a good start and is going to need it anyways. Starting from the rear of the car it goes muffler to your cat (cat-back system) then a cataletic coverter (high flow cat for an upgrade) or test pipe (aka straight pipe) OR the downpipe, which is the next piece, may eliminate the cat (some do some dont). The next piece in line is the 02 housing after the downpipe. This is the last piece in the exhaust system coming off the turbo.

Option one (this is what I did) You buy a full exhuast system from a company that includes what they call an 02 eliminator system. This basically moves your 02 sensor from the housing to the downpipe and replaces the piece where the 02 used to be with a better flowing piece.

Now if you go with an aftermarket housing like that above you have 2 options as to what style you want. One acts like your stock piece and just flows better so that it still recirculates the wastegate gas from the turbo back into the downpipe. The other style called a dump tube basically dumps the wastegate gas to the atmophere. This creates a loud sort of fire extinguisher noise when you reach full boost and the wastegate opens to relase the gas. So, recirculating is emissions friendly .. quiet.. and provides better flow then a stock piece while the dump tube would provide less backpressure (thats good) and less turbulence in the exhaust flow (thats good too) then the piece that recirculates at the cost of being loud and emission illigal.

With all that being said you still have enother option and can just take your stock 02 housing and have it ported to make it larger on the inside to flow better. This is the cheapest option and still a good one to increase air flow.

and no you dont HAVE to replace it or port it but I would do one or the other because if im going to do an exhaust system I want to do it right and not have a restriction in it.

if your looking for a good exhaust system for the cheapest possible, this is what I would do:

buy an aftermarket muffler, hi-flow cat (if you want one) and have someone port your stock O2 housing. You might as well have them port your exhaust manifold while you're at it, neither of these should cost too much to get done.

find a good muffler/exhaust shop around where you live and ask them how much it would cost to run 3 inch mandrel bent pipes from the 02 housing to the cat and then from the cat to the muffler.

If you take this route you'll save some money and have a badass exhaust system. Good luck!

If my whole car is stock and i plan on raising boost would it be best to get 2.5" pipes or 3" pipes for my exhaust?

depends on your goals. Most will say 3" just in case so you dont have to upgrade. Some will say you can get by with 2.5" if you dont plan on going real big. That is your choice.

depends if you dislike the noise or want to stay legal dont dump. If you enjoy the noise and dont care about emissions get the dump. The dump has another advantage of being able to mount an external wastegate there later on if you need it. I personally dont have the dump because I didnt want my car to be loud.

Have it bent by a muffler shop, or look into a Megan Racing full exhaust. They are good quality and priced decently.

yes that is correct as long as you check mark the option that says "eliminates cat" or you will need a high flow cat or test pipe to go between the downpipe and cat back.

i wouldnt worry about a dump unless you plan on getting a bigger than 16g turbo at some point, and even then it isnt totally necessary. for a mild street car a dump isnt a good idea.. it dirtys up your engine, is loud as holy hell at wot and wont pass emissions. smells bad too. for you i say no dump.

o2 housing porting helps a LOT when the rest of the exhaust has been opened up. its free if you do it yourself and have access to a die grinder and carbide steel bits.

i am selling my catback exhaust right now for 350$, its full 3" stainless for a 2g awd.. i dont know if your car is awd or not but i paid 500 from extreme motorsports about 2 months ago for it. anyone that wants it pm me
