HEy guys i was thinking that this could work i want 2 get big brakes for my car cuz i want to start in the auto-x scene. I was wondering if i could just buy and brake rotor that will fit the hub and then get a bracket fabbed up for it?? cuz i want to go with 6 pistons in front and four in the rear. i havent seen any 4 piston rear brakes yet. U think it would work??

before you post read the sticky at the top...FILL OUT YOUR VEHICLE PROFILE

and 4 pot rear calipers are stupid....overkill..you use your rear brakes something like 60% of the time or some odd number like that.....its retarded

but to answer your question yes you could...

How does big brakes make me a ricer?

Probably because there are guys out there using factory 2G brakes (front and rear) that are faster than most of us could dream of being.

Upgrading the front brakes is one thing (I have 6-piston Wilwoods on my car, for instance), but upgrading the rear brakes is pointless and asinine for 99.9999% of DSMs (I'd say 100% but someone will probably INSIST they needed them).

He said he was gonna Autocross. That's not being a ricer at all, that requires skill as a driver and good suspension/brakes.

I would love to have big brakes in my car. Sure the DSM brakes are "adequate" at best for street driving but it is subject to brake fade. Higher quality rotors, pads, and more pistons will make sure they are gonna bite after tons of twisties or maneuvering.

adn plus your COMPLETLEY STOCK
you might wnat to invest in the 1200 suspension your going to need, the urethane bushings for your suspension, sway bars etc befor eyou spend 2 grand on brakes

i spent 50 bucks on my setup

4 drilled rotors, and VGX pads....huge diff from stock....adn i didnt even upgrade calipers

i have tein dampers with edfc that i am going to install just havent done anything yet. The reason i wanted to go bigger in the rears is that i read somewhere that becuase my car is awd it is more likely to step the rear out and the bigger rear brakes would help stop that.

Not useless just adding a whole bunch of pistons and a HUGE rear rotor is stupid..

When you improve the front you need to improve the rear the same percentage to maintain a balance... It still only does a small percentage of the braking...

TCE has rear kits for a reason... Road racers... and serious auto-xers

If you're losing the back end under braking, it's not because your AWD, it's because your suspension setup is f*cked.

Like I said there are guys with properly set up cars that use factory brakes and are very quick around a road or autocross course. Talk to RRE about this.

I put this in the 0.00001% I mentioned above, very few people are going to NEED a rear upgrade, nor will it make the vast majority of drivers any quicker around the track.

I think one of the main reasons people would upgrade the rears on a DSM is for looks. In fact, I'll bet that's the main reason Todd carries them, because he knows he'll make money on them. It's really not a big deal, if you're building a show car. Factory brakes do look like crap after all. :D

i agree....or even with marginally upgraded systems, ie rotors and pads

try that first and then go to bigger calipers.

save the money
the ods you will autoxing as much as you want are slim...

Bottom line compared to the TCE kits the OE rear brakes are dogshit.

You get more even pad wear than the stock calipers, longer pad change intervals, better pad selection, less fade etc.. There are quite a few things they improve... Most people dont need them... But most people really only Need to drive a ford focus or something... I would'nt turn them down.. I would'nt buy them unless I had some worn out rear oe already and some extra $ that month.

They are'nt pointless.

I did say serious auto-x.. Like the heavily modified classes...

Road racing could definately use them..
