ok I been working a while on my car and had to take it slow due to weather and funds. well im talking to a guy right now for his 1g head im trying to buy. i got my gasket complete set already. and heres things in the process of getting that i think i need and good upgrades for me.
1 balance shaft eliminator
2 DSMLink (i dont know if i need this though do i?)
3 Turbo adjuster (sold mine off my car but I want another now)
4 Gauges, I have a boost but i need more. i think i need Oil pressure and water temp. (should i get more for rally racing or is this fine?)
And I was getting new spark plugs (the new ultra spark ones.

I think im forgetting somthing important but I cant think of it. is there anything else I need or should have for my head rebuild and to make everything run smoother???

ok that actually sounds like a good idea... so what size injectors should I get then? should I get 680cc??? and instead of DSMLink I heard I should get an apexi SARFC? should I ignore that and just find a used DSMLink instead?

I believe Link will handle up to 1100ccs, but I'll have to double check. But that is huge power territory anyway. I would think 880s or so would be plenty, but then again it depends on where you eventually want to end up. Hell, 650's might be fine depending on your goals.

I'm still on 650s myself, but I'm at the limit with my setup and will probably upgrade them this year. (See.. if I had of followed the advice I just gave you, I wouldn't have to do this LOL).

As for getting DSMLink...

Unless you know the seller or can varify their creds, I would stick with buying it new. There are a lot of counterfeit copies floating around that you don't want to get involved with. (do some reading on DSMLink Homepage). Thomas and those guys are fantastic to work with, and the forums are very helpful and professional.

The DSMlink vs. SAFC decision comes down to this for most people. With a stock ECU and an SAFC the biggest injector you can run without problems is a 660cc. With DSMlink since you can change global setting the sky is the limit. However if you have and EPROM ECU (I don't know if the 90s generally do or not) you can get a new EPROM made from DSM Chips and then use an SAFC to fine tune it.

DSMlink just offers more features such as control over your timing curves and airflow curves plus it has a built in 2 step rev limmiter and NOS controls.

There are also other choices such as Megasquirt and some others but none of those offer the ease of use and customer support that comes with DSMlink.

ok well to help ya on my goals id be reallllly happy around 400AWHP :D but I was just gonna be happy with what i got  so what injectors should I get to get me close to that? will the 680cc not be big enough?

What he said. And DSMLink gives you a lot more as well, such as reprogramming your boost guage, CEL light, idle control, etc etc.

FWIW - My car had a MAF-T (similar to SAFC) on it when I bought it, so I went the piggyback/logger route. I spent a crap load on stuff I didn't really need at the time (cams, motor mounts, etc), and should have followed what I stated up there ^^^.

A lot of that expenditure is useful now as my other mods have caught up with it, but a lot isn't. As for the KeyDiver chip that was mentioned; I HIGHLY recommend this if you go the piggyback route. Jeff O (at DSM Chips) is a great guy and has some of the best support I've seen, and it will make a big difference in how your car runs. But aside from that, you'll still be spending money on the limited piggyback stuff.

If you decide to go with DSMlink, get as big of injectors as you think you'll ever need. The program will support anything you throw at it, all the way up to 1600cc. Anything up to 1150cc will be fairly easy to dial in (just change a few numbers) and you'll be idling like stock. The 1600cc are a bit more difficult and are hit or miss for getting them dialed in right.

Looking at prices, if you're thinking of going with something around a 680cc, you could get 850cc for the same price. Then 950cc for $20 more. Then 1000cc for $5 more. This is why I say go with as big as you think you'll ever need. I'm going with 1150cc and right now I have a small 16g. But these injectors will last me a long time. And they don't cost too much more than the 680cc ones you're looking at. Do it once and done.

400awhp is pretty much at the top of the curve for say a E316g and 680ish injectors, from what I've seen and heard. That is actually what I'm shooting for right now. Some people have made a little more I think, but most seem to be around 350 to 375 on that setup I believe. A 20g may be a bit different, but probably not by much.

But with this setup (16g, 680s, etc) and all supporting mods, you are probably right at the edge and would most likely be maxing your injectors unless you know some of the big boy secrets.

I don't know what it takes to get 400 WHP from a 20G but I have 720 injectors, DSMlink, and a big 16G and I'm getting almost 300 to the wheels with my amature tune.

Yeah... I think I should be right at 350 or so when I get everything back together, but I'm new to DSMLink tuning myself.

I think to get 400awhp with these setups, you've really got to know some sh*t and push it to the edge. And of course the condition of the drivetrain plays a big part in that also.

o ok thats really cool. yeah im not gonna do the piggy back. ill spend a little more time and money because I hate to do shortcuts. I wanna do it once and right. and since those injectors are barley anymore money $hit ill just get some huge ones not the 1600cc though but theyll be big LOL

Look around at people's setups to see what kind of numbers they are making with given injector sizes.

Just remember that injector size is one tiny little piece of a really big puzzle :)

Yeah but even if its a small peice its a really cheap to get bigger sizes so ill make sure i dont need to re buy them again LOL. o and has anyone delt with road race engineering? i just took back my autozone head gasket (baught it before I got the 2g head so wrong size) well not only was it way more money than it should but it wasnt good quality. Im now thinking of going with RRE for a gasket kit. There also driving distance so I could get it tomorrow and start putting my engine back together finally.

i just called them and they said they dont sell head kits. they told me to call norco mitsu for the cheapest set. dang ok well just got off phone with them and they dont sell metal gasket kits. just the factory stock ones and thats still alot more then i got. I got about 170. right now and i know i saw a good gasket kit somewhere for the head to buy but havnt been able to find the site again. would ebay have head gasket kits? and would it be a good idea to go with 1 from ebay?

just make sure whatever set you get it has a metal head gasket with it. or even buy one separately. you can ask anyone and theyll tell you it will be worth it in the end.

great now i find out slow boy doesnt do 2g heads for 6 bolt. but they do every other combo of it grrr

ive been looking for hours and cant find a good setup for a head gasket kit. so this is what im thinking. RRE mitsubishi stock metal head gasket 90$ and then there a kit a found for everything and the head gasket but it isnt metal also for 90. so ill just put the RRE head gasket in with the other kit. is there a cheaper way to do this? any advice would be appreciated. just for fyi its a 6 bolt with 2g head. thats my info
