ok I been working a while on my car and had to take it slow due to weather and funds. well im talking to a guy right now for his 1g head im trying to buy. i got my gasket complete set already. and heres things in the process of getting that i think i need and good upgrades for me.
1 balance shaft eliminator
2 DSMLink (i dont know if i need this though do i?)
3 Turbo adjuster (sold mine off my car but I want another now)
4 Gauges, I have a boost but i need more. i think i need Oil pressure and water temp. (should i get more for rally racing or is this fine?)
And I was getting new spark plugs (the new ultra spark ones.

I think im forgetting somthing important but I cant think of it. is there anything else I need or should have for my head rebuild and to make everything run smoother???

To weed out the import things first your ARP stud is a must to have a engine that u do not want to take apart again for any reason for issues. Turbo adjuster is a must but i was just one another post of yours and u weed out the fuel issue first. And for spark these engines prefer NGK with about a 7 or 8 mm wire. another thing is i would sugest is a Apexi SARFC. it use most fo boost and tells alot more but get u a nice wideband. Last if u want to spend 500 dollars on the computer program DSM link go ahead. just get a Eprom for the adjust ment needed for your injectors and u will be fine

To clarify Meklo's reply..Do not go and buy an SAFC if your getting DSMlink, you are just wasting money. If you are on a budget, I would suggest a pocketlogger/SAFC instead of the DSMlink however. As for spark plugs, NGK BPR6ES, and wires, I would say Magnacores 8.5mm but thats a personal preference.I would be careful when adjusting your manual boost controller and make sure you dont raise it past the safe levels on the stock fuel system(about 15psi). YOu are running a 20g turbo with an FMIC with no fuel mods? You will need a fuel pump, wally 255 will be more then suffient, an AFPR, and bigger injectors, I would suggest 650ccs to give you a little room for your setup. A boost gauge for now will do just fine, you dont need water temperature, oil pressure would be a good choice, and get a wideband o2.

YEah zoom i like the abbilty of the SAFC. i dont have it in mine yet but i seen them in action on my buddies car. A nice 300 dollar investment....

i think i do have a better fuel pump because when i baught the car it came with the stock one out of it and sitting in the trunk so im guessing the new 1 in there isnt stock... and thanks guys for the feedback. yeah im on a budget and need to only get the important stuff for right now.

another thing to go by on that is to have it rewired....mine a 255 of a supra TT and wired but i do need a regulator and fuel defencer

o thanks man. wow it turns out my pump is also re wired... dang im finding out alot about this car has been done that I didnt know about.

LOL yeah ill never lag behind the hondas... well i found out i got a 255 pump and its re wired. also im going to either get the safc or the wideband. not sure yet. any preferences? who likes the other more than the first?

Get the wideband over the S-AFC. But I would get a logger before all of that. Do you plan on running injectors bigger than 660cc? If so, ditch the S-AFC idea and get DSMlink (or some other high end engine management system). Which you had stated in your first post that DSMlink was an option. That gets my #1 vote.

You also said you wanted a boost controller. I recommend building your own. It can be built for about $10 and is not hard at all. Here's the info about it:

no i dont plan on going bigger than 660 cc injectors... im not sure yet but i wont be going bigger than that. i might go for 252 cams though so would that mean i should get bigger injectors? and yeah DSMLink is to much for me now. isnt SAFC a data logger to?

and dam cool i didnt know you could build boost controllers for cheap like that. imma check that out now

Well, if you are 100% positive you won't go for injectors bigger than 660cc, then go with the S-AFC if you really can't afford DSMlink.

If you plan on installing 272 cams (I'm assuming you didn't mean 252 :p), no, you won't need bigger injectors.

S-AFC is not a logger. It stands for Super Air Fuel Controller. And that's exactly what it is - a tuning device.

yeah im runing rich now until I can get mine installed. But what is the better route to take on geting something to tune your car to were u want it.........

Unless you are an "abnormal" DSMer... you'll eventually want more HP, no matter what you think now. It's like a law of nature or something :)

By the time you sink the $$$ for 660s, logger, and an SAFC and figure out how to tune it, you'll be ready for a better way to tune and log it, followed soon by wanting more power... which requires bigger injectors etc. etc.

Speaking from experience, I would fix things first and then just get DSMLink and a little larger injectors for unknown future plans. That way you'll have full control over everything and much better diagnostics/logging right from the start, and in the long run it will probably cost less. You'll also be learning a lot more about how to really tune and how things work and won't have to relearn how to tune when you upgrade (SAFCs, MAF-Ts, and other piggyback systems work by basically lieing to the ECU about airflow; with DSMLink, you are actually modifying the air/fuel/timing values the ECU uses). You'll want it all eventually anyway, so might as well save the upgrade expense and get it now ;)

Also...I wouldn't worry about the cams yet. You've got LOTS of performance to get out of it before you need them. Save the cam money and put it into maintenance items, or use it to offset the cost of DSMLink. Just my .02 of course.

But....If you don't go with DSMLink, then stick with 650s or smaller.

Kyromoto, you should make the journey to one of the LADSM Monday night meets in Norwalk. You can ask a bunch of questions in person, if your car is drivable you can have other DSMers take a look at it. And if you want to check out cars that have DSMlink and cars that have SAFCs there is usually both there. And if that is to far there will be a bunch of us at the street legals in Fontana on March 8th, even if you aren't into drag racing your raly car you should come and hang out and B.S. about DSMs.

ok that actually sounds like a good idea... so what size injectors should I get then? should I get 680cc??? and instead of DSMLink I heard I should get an apexi SARFC? should I ignore that and just find a used DSMLink instead?
